Carriker's injury is a huge blow to this team. He was the best DL. I would be willing to bet, this maybe the end for him, depending on how next off season goes. But the truth is we have a good amount of cap money, relatively speaking of course, not only tied into Carriker, but into the defensive line which to be completely honest, is only OK.

Bowen, Coefield, and Carriker are set to make a total of $13.65 million next year!!!! Thats a lot of money for a DL that isn't dominating.

I would like to see the Redskins dump Carriker and get a REAL nose tackle and move Coefield to end where he would be better suited. The key to any 3-4 defense start's at the NT position. We need someone who can dominate the middle and hold blockers and plug holes. Coefield isn't big or strong enough in my opinion.

Financially, I don't think it's makes a whole lot of sense to keep Bowen and Coefield. That money could be used to upgrade the NT position. But from a depth standpoint, they may need to hold on to them.

Hopefully Jarvis Jenkins can stay CLEAN and healthy and perhaps Bowen and/or Coefield could become expendable.

The Redskins are going to need to focus on the DL next year in my opinion. I'm with everyone where I think the RT spot is the most pressing. But ILB and DL are right behind.

DL is a big concern but I think our DE's will have a great season, still worried about our CB's and safeties though, hopefully one of the rookies steps up.

there is no need to move the best statistical NT in the game to DE . golston and baker/merling can hold down the fort until jenkins comes back

Based on? Is that good enough for you? He is not dominating or controlling the line of scrimmage.

Yes, but that is short sighted. My post is discussing long term. Do you want or think the Redskins should keep Carriker next year?

go to pro football focus and read the write up on cofield . he led the NFL by a wide margin for sacks pressures , hurries and hits on the qb by a wide margin

as for a long term solution we have jenkins already in place and a 2014 draft coming up as well as free agency if needs be

bowen and cofield are good. actually cofield is better than good. the only problem with our d line is carriker in injured and jenkins is suspended. after they get back we will be fine.

Cofield is very good at holding the point of attack. People don't see it because we don't have athleticism along the rest of the DL and the ILBs.

Jenkins could still be a long term answer. He was supposedly looking dominant as a rookie prior to his injury and with those kinds of injuries, it can take a while to get back to 100% in some cases. Especially with heavy ass linemen. The suspension definitely doesn't help his cause. But he'll be here for 12 games, and hopefully he proves himself.

Regardless, the defensive line will probably be a focal point next year. Need some younger talent in the rotation.
