You guys in Texas seem to be a wee bit sensitive about your city. A little inferiority complex going on there, huh? Shaq talks about Howard not being able to handle the pressure of Los Angeles and suddenly people of Houston thinks Shaq is degrading their city, that his town. Houston is nice for what it is. Though I did get a kick out of a newspaper article a friend of mine sent me from the Houston Chronicle after she moved there from Los Angeles a few years ago. Apparently, it was about how Houston was over taking Los Angeles as the second city in the country. It was very cute. Apparently, there is a rivalry going on between Houston and Los Angeles, but only the people in Houston know about it. So, I understand. According to the article, you guys have a museum and a couple world class restaurants with some meatless dishes, or as we call it, vegetarian.

Steve A. Smith is very credible. He actually have relationships with players and have their numbers in his phone.

but debates on first take against skip? no body with half a reputation would take that job to save a loved ones life. the show is a joke of misinformation and media hype.

It's entertaining. Love him or hate him, Stephen A. has plenty of credibility.

Currently and for the last 3 years this is unarguable. Nobody has been talked about more, scrutinized more, been to more finals and won more finals in the last 3 years than the Heat and the members of their franchise. Before that though it was all Lakers, NYK, Boston in that order.

See, this is what is throwing me for a loop, he hates Kobe but then gets mad at Dwight for not wanting to play on a team with Kobe and the 80 year olds that comprise the rest of the team?

Just because Shaq was critical of Howard doesn't mean that he is mad at him.

This is so funny! This coming from an idiot who couldn't handle playing basketball. All he ever did was camp in the paint. Did you ever learn how to shoot a free throw?

I hate the way Shaq takes pot-shots at Dwight, but I will agree with something.......Dwight is really not the type of guy who can do consistently well in a win a chip or get RAILED ON situation. He's never going to be the guy that could do that until he says I don't give a crap about what the media/fans say. In Houston if they make the WCF, I'm willing to bet that the greater majority of fans/media in Houston would be satisfied. I'm also willing to bet that he doesn't get criticized or held accountable in Houston. It's a PERFECT fit for him. Everyone just isn't made out to be consistently criticized, railed on, and held accountable if you don't win the title. LA and Boston are ridicoulsly critical if you don't win the title if you have a contending team. Most normal people can take a good year for what it was and be satisfied, not LA and Boston fans....and I could see how that could get very annoying to others. Look, the pressure or whatever probably wasn't the driving force(insert Dantoni here), but it sure played a factor.

this seems like a sensitivity driven response.

24 hours ago you guys didnt want him, now ya'll pissed he didnt stay? come on man

you guys would have been better with out him but next year you have that blank canvas to destroy free agency with, honestly I would hop Kobe misses the whole season and Pau demands a trade so you move up the lottery tree to add to that free agency attack. Nash retiring would help too.

Shaq doesn't hate Kobe. They patched things up a few years ago!!

And I love how you try and act like the Lakers have "Kobe and the 80 year olds" signed for 5 more years!! Outside of Nash, every contract is up after next season, including Kobe's. So it would have been one more season with the current players and then re-build around Dwight!!

Just because Shaq was critical of Howard doesn't mean that he is mad at him.

I don't know how else to characterize this statement by Shaq? I will say a lot of the criticism directed at Dwight from Shaq can be seen as a poor attempt at helping him. This one is hard to bend that way.

I hate the way Shaq takes pot-shots at Dwight, but I will agree with something.......Dwight is really not the type of guy who can do consistently well in a win a chip or get RAILED ON situation. It is true that Houston will probably be satisfied with going to the WCF, THIS YEAR but the expect RANGZ!!! Also not every one is cut out for the constant scrutiny of championship or bust, but that is not where the Lakers are right now. We have to assume most teams will take a year to adjust, but in the Lakers case they are a year behind houston. Dwight is not that young, he needs to get started and the Lakers will be back, just not as quickly as the Rockets and the Rockets management has shown to be MUCH MORE COMPETENT the last couple years than the Lakers.

This is so funny! This coming from an idiot who couldn't handle playing basketball. All he ever did was camp in the paint. Did you ever learn how to shoot a free throw?

LOL, you just described every center in the history of the league, not sure you knew that.

I hope nobody gets the wrong idea from me. I cringe at the thought of what Dwightmare could end up doing to the Rockets. And not in a positive manner either.

Enjoy your stay, Kevin McHale.

Hope you are renting.

Stephen A is nobody I would consider credible nor is the ESPN network. Their entire gig is to create hype and drama for the sports that they cover which in turn intrigues people to watch their networks and drives the price of advertising on their networks.

And therefore, what? You don't like Smith or ESPN, therefore Shaq must be wrong? Is that the logic here? I don't know how to argue the message, so I will argue the messenger, hoping no one will notice

My point wasn't that the almighty Steven A. Smith said it. It was that Shaq's opinion of Howard not being able to handle the bright lights is a common opinion among sports analyst and journalist. But somehow, Houstonian see that as an attack on their low-lights, slow paced, town.

this is good

I know they don't but they will suck this year and then blow it all up the year after, building a team takes 3 years if you are lucky, tbh dwight doesn't have that kind of time. It takes 2-4 years to put a team together that can contend, another year to get the team playing well together. By that time Dwight will be Kobe's age.

LOL, which CLEARLY wouldn't have happened if Dwight had stayed in L.A....

If Dwight stayed in LA it would have been for money in which case he has a horrible accountant. Houston or GS were the only places for him to go if he wants a rang. Both Dallas and LA are very far behind LA.

LA can quickly catch up due to them being able to sign anyone they want in one year, but management chose to keep a poor coach match up for Dwight while having their best player coming back from career endingish injury.

I feel bad for McHale but will be reveling in the sheer delight of every Houston loss next year.

It doesn't matter where the Lakers are right now. The scrutiny does not change!! Dwight might have gotten off the hook next year (at least when Kobe came back), but after next season, when the Lakers truly became "Dwights' team" the scrutiny and pressure would have gone waaaay up!!

I am not really saying Shaq is wrong, I do not think it was a huge part of Dwights decision though. As for ESPN and first take, I think they are a joke. I would rather watch a chalk board with Xs and Os and any coach teach me their tactics and schemes than hear about the malarky we are currently discussing, but I am bored :D

If we look at the facts:

LA is a great BBall town who will rebuild and in this case have a great opportunity to rebuild after this year however they like. 2 problems for Dwight staying, they kept a coach that soesn't suit Dwights play style and Kobe in a wheel chair will expect the O to be ran through him.

Houston is the most champion ship ready team with him as the addition outside Miami and GS in that order. Well Houston is probably ahead of GS but I really think it would have been a better fit.

Dwight has made it clear he wants a ring, he went to the place that gives him the best shot fastest with out signing for the vet min in Miami :D

Shaq at this point is just being a douche.
