The problem with Tressel was that his mentality involving recruiting was to basically protect the Ohio Valley and occasionally get a recruit from Florida, while Meyer is going into SEC territory, Texas, and even California and getting the athletes he knows win titles. I'm not saying the midwest is devoid of talent, but you can't rely solely on it. The last 2 recruiting classes Meyer has had have been vastly different than anything we ever saw under Tressel outside of maybe 2008.

Also, you say he isn't build for rebuilding? That's ALL he did his first few years at UF. That team was a wreck in the wake of Zook, and Meyer took them to 2 titles in his first 4 years. Honestly, if he gets OSU 2 titles in 4 years and leaves after 6, I'll be fine with that. We're OSU, we're not gonna have trouble finding another elite coach.

I still don't know how true that is. Urban got a lot of guys in year 1 from those places, but the pace has certainly slowed down. With more than half of your class done this year, you don't have any kids from Texas or California where you had 4 or 5 the year before. You have a few from SEC land, but no more than usual at this point. I'm wondering if year 1 had a lot to do with a mad rush to get recruits in the two months that he had to recruit more so than actually seeking out kids from the area. Part of it may have been that he was just more familiar with those areas, from being at Florida and recruiting there, and didn't know Ohio as well. I think we see a shift more towards Ohio than in his first class and part of me thinks that Hoke recruiting Ohio so hard has something to do with it. Other teams are starting to push for Ohio kids (especially Kentucky this year) and I think the OSU coaching staff is starting to realize that they can't let that much talent leave.

Urban has 2 recruiting classes, bud. You're mistaken a bit. His first class was actually very heavy on the Ohio Valley and up into New England but he still pulled studs like Adolphus Washington and Noah Spence, along with Taylor Decker, Josh Perry, Tommy Schutt, Armani Reeves, Cam Williams, all of whom will see a lot of time this year if not start themselves. Year 2 was when he went nuts, grabbing three blue chip kids from Texas (Wilson, Mitchell, and Barrett), two from Georgia (Bell, Johnson), two from Florida (Bosa, Clark), etc. As for this year's class, which unfortunately is likely to be smaller, we are the leader for top MLB Raekwon McMillan (Georgia), are the are in great shape for S Juju Smith and TE Tyler Luatua (California), are finalists for OG Demetrius Knox and S Tony Adams (Texas), and earlier this month had 4* Georgia athlete Myles Autry tweet "Ohio State Is Still My Dream School Best Believe!", even though we aren't really going after him. We're also going back into NY to likely get Curtis Samuel, an athlete who has been shooting up recruiting boards this summer. So, I was right. We aren't going to get our entire class from GA, TX, and CA, but we're still obviously very active there and will continue to be.

If BM gets hurt, Kenny Guiton has showed the ability to lead the offense. If Martinez gets hurt, you guys are royally fucked.

I know you're hoping and praying Braxton gets hurt if we have to play you, as that is literally the only way you can beat us (or so you think). Had we had an intelligent coach in '11 that didn't put in Bauserman for some reason, we would've still won, and that's a fact. Obviously we've seen Braxton slice that pathetic defense to ribbons 2 years in a row, so for your own fans' safety, maybe you should aspire to avoid the B1G CCG this year. I'd hate to see a bunch of Huskers off themselves after Braxton embarrasses you 3 years in a row.

Bauserman seriously played the worst game I've ever seen in that '11 game against NU....it was like he was trying to overthrow everyone by 20 yards....

Have you guys got any other younger guys waiting in the wings after Miller? If I remember right, Guiton is a SR this year?

Just out of curiosity, when exactly did Kenny Gulton show that he can lead the offense?

Guiton is a senior, yes. We have Cardale Jones, a 6'5", 235 lb DT QB who looked very solid this year in the Spring Game (I know, it's the Spring Game, but it's really the only footage I've seen of him that isn't from HS or Fork Union), and then we brought in 4* DT QB J.T. Barrett from Texas this year. One of those 2 will likely start after Braxton leaves, which likely won't be until after the 2014 season. Of course, by then, who knows?

I really want to see James White break a 70 yarder at the shoe. Or anybody for that matter. The handfull of times I've seen Wisconsin win at that stadium, it was very pleasing to hear the pin drop.

That being said, I'm kind of expecting this game to be a brutal, low scoring game. I think the coaches know each other too well. Round 1 could be a defensive punch out.

It wouldn't shock me if he was able to. Even though our front 7 in insanely talented, it is still reasonably raw, and we get you guys earlier in the year. Honestly, I could see this one being more like the 2011 game than last year's. The 2012 game was just an ugly game on both sides. Both had dropped TD passes (I can think of 2 just in the first quarter), both offenses were wildly inconsistent, and both defenses played arguably their best games of the season. I'm not saying both defenses are gonna be so bad this year, but both offenses just have too much firepower to not put some points on the board.

Link to the fact that our coach was not intelligent? See every loss from that season. Link to the fact that we would've won had he played Guiton instead of Bauserman? Look up pretty much any game Bauserman ever played in and then look at what Guiton was able to do last year. He clearly knows how to run the offense, but Fickell was too afraid not to go with the senior in 2011. I guess you can say it isn't a fact, but it's pretty hard to argue against.

I was just reading about Abbredaris comments at Big Ten Days that a huge number of seniors have been contributing on the field pretty much since their freshman year. I think the Badger leadership is as good and experienced this year as it ever has been, and they've had 4 great senior classes in that regard. Think that could be a factor against you guys?

I think BM is going to put up some sick stats this season. The OL is going to be solid, both the running and passing game should improve immensely. The only question I have really is our defense? On a side note, the Northwestern game scares me more than any of the other games.

It certainly won't hurt you. That said, you guys have GOT to improve at the QB position. With guys out there like Abbredaris and Pedersen, it's a shame you didn't have someone to get the ball to them last year. Both sides have very experienced offensive lines, which will be huge. I'm hoping Braxton's off-season work with George Whitfield worked, because that's gonna be our best weapon against you with you guys replacing 3 starting defensive backs. We've also gotta contain guys like Borland and Cankles Allen on the d-line so we can move the ball with the run. James White and Gordon scare me just as much as Ball did, so I don't see any drop-off there. With improved QB play on both sides, this year's game has all the makings to be a great one, but I would be surprised if it was a low-scoring affair like last year.
