depends what you and the family are into.

for naturey stuff: the view from Grouse Mountain is pretty spectacular, and only 20 min from down town
tourists sometimes like to take the ferry over to Victoria. very scenic on a sunny day.
or a day trip up to Whistler

what do you guys generally like to do when you travel?

I would add to puck's post that a trip to Stanley Park including the aquarium and a walk along the seawall is pretty cool.

That's sounds right up my alley. We are stopping there because we are taking one of those cruises to Alaska. I think I'm gonna wrestle a bear

there are three wolves and two grizzlies that they keep at Grouse Mtn.
The wolves you can usually see (right by the parking lot), and the grizzlies have a bit of area to roam when it warms up. I saw them a couple of days after they were done hibernating, so their area wasn't fully opened up yet. big freakin' bears. you'd lose against those fellas.

Dash is right about Stanley Park - it is right in town, and the aquarium is quite good.
Prospect point (also in Stanley Park) is neat to see the boat traffic, and if you are lucky you might see a jumper off of the Lions' Gate bridge.
from there, depending on how active you are, you can walk around the seawall to English Bay, which is a decent beach right at the edge of the city. or rent bikes.

Robson Street is good for shopping / people watching.

Whistler or Victoria are definitely full day trips.

Not a Vancouver guy per se, but the suggestions above are pretty awesome. The road to Whistler is worth the trip itself.

As for what to eat.. there are loads of good sushi and seafood places but when I'm in Van I try to always make it to Vij's. It's Indian food meets fine dining. It's delicious, IMO.

Vij's

Outstanding last time I was there 2 years ago.

All good suggestions

Id add, since you are gonna be in the cruise ship area (burrard inlet) and i dont know if youre renting a car is getting a public transit day pass (i think its $8 but its been a while since i bought one) taking the seabus (public transit) over to the north shore and heading to the capilano suspension bridge (same bus also goes up to grouse mountain iirc). The bridge area also has a treetops park with elevated walkways in the trees

With your day pass you could then go to westvans ambleside park. Theres a 1000 pound elephant seal laying on the beach moulting (which is a once in a generation occurence in a city beach here in these parts)... might still be there in june

Stanley park is walking distance fromthe cruise ship terminal as is robson street as is gastown (but dont wander to far east as youll end up in the downtown eastside). Vancouvers downtown is good for walking ... Seawalls (maybe u will see strombone) and dont forget to go to georgia and granville where all the 2011 riot action went down lol

As for food, download the ap "street food" bytatlow... Theres lots of great food trucks around downtown and the ap maps them out for u ... Japadog is always close to the cruise ship terminal. Ones ive tried that id recommend are dim sum express, street meet and mogu. Kenny suggested Vij's restaurant .... They have a food truck too if you want great food fast and youre on the go

if you are in Yaletown (Mainland St and Helmcken) there are lots of great little places for good beer, nice people and good food. That is the area where all the fun took place during the 2010 olympics where so many people from so many nations hung out, sang, drank and made merry lol... it is a great area.

Just be careful of those anarchists who caused all that trouble 2 years ago after the SCF.

I know youre attempting another lame joke but the anarchists in vancover are now assaulting people randomly at new restauants that they deem to be gentrifying their area and burning down condo developments

So yah ... Funny

I really wish I had more than 2 days there now. I appriciate all the suggestions. In regards to the anarchists is there anything i need to avoid or are those occasions rare?

I don't think you have much to worry about Q, but you probably don't won't to wear your Bolland jersey around town.

No, it's just a bunch of worthless assholes who want their shit neighborhoods to remain shit neighborhoods for some stupid reason.
Doesn't affect where you would be at all.
