I will review this after I have finished Season 1!

(I've had it on bluray since last year. What the hell is wrong with me? Amazon just emailed me in the last coupla weeks to say Season 2 is available too. Much catching up to do.)

Is season 3 = book 3 like the first 2 seasons were?

I haven't read anything about it recently, but for the most part yes...although I think they're going to take a bit from book 4 or 5 and stack it into season 3. Shouldn't effect it that much, the producers love book 3 and want to bring it all to the screen. My guess would be that they expand on what happens to Daenarys in book 3 by bringing in some of what happens early in book 4/5.

Books 4 and 5 happen simultaneously. So we could see parts of A Dance With Dragons in Season 3 to cover the dragons and what is happening with them. Probably at the end of the season. Just my theory, though.

Season three is half of book three

Theyll have to start introducing characters from book 4 tho to make the show work.. unless theyre gonna ignore all the main cast.. LOL

Book 3 was very good I thought. I just started book 5 and it is hard to grasp that this stuff is happening at the same time as the stuff i read a while back. They will need to start splitting the books up in the seasons otherwise they will run out of material long long before the 7th book is out.

I have a reading list that combines Crows & Dance in chronological order. PM for it. The list is pretty much a spoiler based on chapter names.

Book 4 starts off slow but I thought it got a lot better at the end especially the very end.

I'm just around page 250 of the first book, and now I'm torn. Should I read through book 3, or just watch season 3 first? I won't have the time to read them all before the shows start.

After reading books 1 and 2 tho, the show is kinda lame

Yeah, just like most things, the show just doesn't compare to the books. It can't really, unless they want to make a 24/7 GoT channel. I do like the show a lot, though. It's a little different, be really well done I think.

I have two separate stories in my head, honestly. I guess that's because I read the books in 2005 when Feast came out. The only actor who kind of supplanted my image of the character when I reread the books was Peter Dinklage. Maybe Drogo too, actually.

I would keep reading. The books are better than the show. There are little things the show leaves out that help tie things together in the other books too.

Spoiler Alert, do not read whited out words below. I do have a point for other readers who are ahead of the series, though.

I don't see Barristan Selmy in the trailers at all, but that could just be a result of them wanting his arrival to be a surprise? However, I get the feeling that Daario is going to be more prominent in season 3 than he was in Storm of Swords, partly because the actor playing him is basically the Eminem of the UK, and pretty popular on that other continent. Personally I think that could make the series more interesting. I don't think it would make it to the end of the plot if they try to line up directly with the books forever. As Irule pointed out, it's good but still can't compare to the books. What do you guys think?

SPOILERS

It would be a shame if they left Barristan out, he plays a pretty important role in Dani's story. Hope it's just a surprise as you said. I'm also cool with Daario having a more prominent role. It just would make sense for TV, and he certainly is a flashy character.

I'm still upset over their casting of Mance tho.. the dude is too old, and stern to be the same character, and they blew it big time with him
