That's a bit more in line than the 10 mill he wanted in Atlanta but still surprised by the Devils on this. He doesn't seem to fit their style very well.

With the way he plays or should I say doesn't play defense that seems like a lot of money.

I'm just happy he's staying in the East, Kings already have a good team, adding a 40+ goal scorer to the lineup might make them Pacific Division favourites.

Is there a trade coming from NJ? Aren't they over the cap by about 4 mill now still with some guys to sign?

Should be interesting if that is the case.

Yeah, they'll have to move somebody to fit Kovy...Brian Rolston (he's getting up there in age, though), I wouldn't mind Patrick Elias.

Agreed, this is a cap hit more inline with his value.

But who in their right mind would take Rolston at 5 mill per year for this year and next. And 6 mill for Elias seems pricey as well.

Lou might have some problems on his hands in the next few days.

Keep in mind that there are still teams that have to spend $$$ just to reach the cap floor.

Isn't that Corsby money? 8.5, I think Crosby makes 8.7 (am I correct)?

Sorry but his defensive game shouldn't put him on the same level with the superstar players.

He is a UFA and seems to be thought to be the prize of this years free agent. He was going to get close to the maximum salary.

i don't care about the market, i think ovie's salary should be the limit with sid and geno's...well basically off limits too. obviously certain GMs are forced to spend more because of the market, but it's still just wrong. kovy doesn't derserve that type of money.

I hope this is true. Even though 10 million really wouldn't have hurt the Islanders in terms of the cap right now. It's still a ridiculous amount of money for one player. Don't get me wrong I would have been very happy if Kovalchuk chose the Isles but, if that's not the case it certainly isn't the end of the world.

At least the Devils are going to have to make a move or two with this deal. Over 8 million per is still a HUGE contract.

i do not think malkin does either.

nah, he is when he's on. sadly, last season wasn't one of those times. if he regains his end of 08 or the playoffs of 09 form, he's worth it. i know what you mean though...trust me, when he coughs up the puck 10 times in the D zone because he goes all russian on us, i hate that contract. i'm just happy to have him on my team though...not many teams get to see 2 such potent players play at the same time.
