ford ... Will save you the trouble ... what I said was that TEX would likely to exercise its option to play next year. If it makes you feel good to to say I said it "would be a wise investment". Fine ... but that isn't what I said.

$9M for Feldman is his contracted salary for 2013 like MY's contracted salary next year is $16M. You call MY salary an investment in the last year of his career?

You think you are right today ... we'll see what happens in December.

The Drysdale quote reminds me of a Drysdale story. He was pitching one day and Walter Alstin, the Dodgers manager goes to the mound and tells Drysdale to put the next hitter on. When Alstin gets back to the bench he sees the batter standing on 1st base rubbing his backside. Alston hollers at Drysdale, "what the hell?" Drysdale hollers back, "you didn't say how".

not really. the Rangers wasted 11.5M on him

At the time they signed him his fastball had a little more gitty up on it and his cutter was good enough to win 17 games so it probably looked like a wise decision when they gave him the money. Luckily for him, MY and few others, GM's don't have the ability to look into the future. Looking forward the 600k will be money spent more wisely.

while true to some small extent, we got more bang for the bucks from Young than we ever got from Feldman. in the 1st 3 years of the MY contract we got an annual .313 BA, 191 hits, 88.3 RBI's and 14.6 HR's. some fail to remember what he gave us during those 3 years and concentrate solely on this year because he took a step back.

If you value 1 WAR at 4.5 million, then Michael Young has never lived up to the value of his most recent contract, even last year he only mustered a 2.1 WAR for an approximate value of 9.5 million,

but at his best (before his recent contract) was a 3.6 WAR player which equates to a value of about 16.2 million but luckily he was only a 3 million dollar a year player,

Young did manage to garner a lot of surplus value before his most recent contract

not worth arguing, but some of you put way too much stock in WAR.if teams worried as much about WAR as some fans do half their team would be on the bench.teams look at the overall picture of what a player brings to the team.

Which is why the saying is "playing for your next contract".

Its not perfect but I'll take it over Wash's gut and eye at this point, and it does a pretty good job of doing exactly what you say teams do, look at the overall picture of what a player brings to a team, baserunning, offense and defense

How was it hi-jacked. Valid baseball discussion in here. Don't be so sensitive when MY gets criticized.

not being sensitive, romeo. we were discussing Feldman. the thread topic is about Feldman. why can't we just stick to the topic of the thread?

The topic was players who don't live up to their contracts and the gm's that give out those bad contracts. MY and his contract fit that category along with feldman according to widely accepted objective numbers which you criticized but as usual offered no alternative to beyond unquantifiable statements and got mad. Take a step back and realize we don't hate MY. We just choose to view his situation and his contract objectively and he fits into this conversation.

another thread hi-jacked

And it was you who hijacked it Scotty with the MY comparisons. All I did was use him, Feldman and few others as an examples of GM mistakes. You could have just as easily focused on the "few others"....Harden and Oswalt come to mind.
