not sure that he took that much flack as much as i think some put too much emphasize on his early success at the plate. i know a lot of people were hoping that he would be the Rangers answer to Mike Trout and expected that he would immediately seize a spot in the lineup. i expect that both he and Profar are going to be Rangers stars in the not-too-distant future and for a long time.

I agree with this, but I still start both in AAA next year barring a trade or injury that requires one of them to be called up and play everyday.

Well, even the incomparable Mike Trout didn't adjust well with his first taste of the big leagues in 2011. Not many guys can come right in and be really productive their first season. Now, Olt is 24 and not 19 like Trout so he should have adjusted better but it is still a really difficult jump.

The problem I have with the prospectophiles is that they always want to automatically play these guys over the veterans regardless of the team situation or whether or not the player actually deserves to play. By all accounts Olt has the potential to be a good one. But then again, the stathead crowd loved them some Jason Botts, Justin Smoak, Chris Davis, etc. Every year we run into these guys that are the next big thing and they almost never turn out the way we want.

At some point the guys on Lone Star Ball, here, or wherever are just going to have to admit that maybe, just maybe Ron Washington knows what he is doing and that not only is the team well served by his managing but the players are as well. Amazingly, he gets no credit for developing Murphy, Cruz, Andrus, Kinsler, Moreland, Gentry, and a slew of others but gets slammed for holding players like Smoak, Olt & Davis back.

The thing is ... at the beginning of Aug TEX wasn't getting any play out of Snyder its corner IF backup ... so promoting a hot Olt the best corner IF option made sense ... even if he sat.

At the end of August after going a month without a real middle IF backup and following a cup of coffee visit by Luis Hernandez and with the AA season about over promoting the best middle IF option ... Profar made sense.

The frustrating thing is that because of one under-performing veteran (MY) when there were opportunities for Gentry, Snyder and Gozalez and Olt and Profar to play ... they couldn't get into the lineup.

I think before this season is over that TEX is going to be very sorry for not making PT available for all 25 guys.

you say that they didn't get an opportunity to play because of MY but if you really looked at the stats you would see that before the All-Star break Snyder had appeared in 33 games, Gentry in 69 and Gonzalez in 21. After the All-Star break, Profar (after being called up on Aug. 31) has appeared in 4 games, Olt has appeared in 15 games (and has been suffering with plantar fascillous (SP), Gentry has appeared in 40, Snyder appeared in 5 and Gonzalez in 3. with the team in a play-off race that's about normal for utility players and the #4 Of'er.

To call Gentry a #4 OFer when he's posted an OFFENSIVE WAR almost equivalent (1.3 to 1.1) to Nelson Cruz and simply ignore his defensive contributions, and then he's done it in more than HALF the ABs, you're looking at the numbers how you're choosing to look at the numbers

Then on top of it all, Gentry's numbers against RHPs look eerily similar to Young's numbers overall

Point is, Murphy or Cruz need to DH and Young needs to sit, let Gentry man CF

you are obsessed with Young. we were carrying 4 OF'ers until September 1st and you would use one of them as a DH. what would you have done before September 1st if one of your starting OF'ers had gone down and your back-up OF'er was DH'ing? batted your pitcher or blitzed thru your bullpen and bench like TB had to do yesterday.

and now that we have Martin up, maybe we could do what you suggested but with Hamilton down for at least the next few days once again you would use our 4 available OF'ers and disregard the possibility of one of them going down during the game. you need to have someone available to come off the bench

BTW, if you haven't noticed Cruz is hitting .171 in September (7 of 41). i'd rather have Young at DH than him. maybe we ought to give Cruz a few days off and put Gentry in RF

Wrong. Moreland can play OF too. Played a good rf last year when nelly was hurt.

Btw, so could Olt or Snyder in a pinch.

who plays 1st?

Olt is out for at least 2 weeks. and if Snyder is so good why did he get sent down and not get brought back up until after September 1st. Hopefully next year we have better options so Young does spend time on the bench but to be so desperate as to be willing to handicap the team just to get him there now is comical.

I wasn't talking about right now. And they would only have been used in certain situations not starting, and Assuming everyone is healthy. The point is this would allow us to get Murphy, Cruz, Gentry, and Hamilton all in the lineup because we had options if needed later in the game.

okay i see that was your point. but if Hamilton was healthy right now i would be more apt to put Ham in LF, Gentry in CF and Murphy in RF and give Cruz a couple days off. Cruz is hitting .171 with 1 homer and 4 RBI's over his last 41 AB's and has also seem a little distracted in the field. maybe it's the fatigue everyone is talking about and a couple of days might be the tonic he needs.

according to ESPN, Hamilton will play tonite and Beltre will DH

would like to see Gentry in CF which would put Hammy in LF and Murphy in RF and Cruz get a rest.

1. Kinsler 2B

2. Andrus SS

3. Hamilton LF

4. Beltre DH

5. Murphy RF

6. DH

7. Moreland 1B

8. Soto C

9. Gentry CF

haven't decide who i use at DH maybe Profar or Martin

Snyder was sent down not due to lack of performance ... but because he wasn't getting playing time and needed some AAA time in the lineup. The only other corner IF guy who was ML quality was Olt.

My bad. You're right I should have said 3rd. I am not crazy about Young being there but Snyder would be more of a late inning defensive upgrade there in my book.
