Nice list of 6 guys who could surprise. You could easily come up with at least another 6 of course

That's a good list. I think the best camp battle will be for 3rd and 4th TE. Schoonmaker, Fant and Stephens Jr for 2 spots max. Ill also be watching the RB's. It sounds like Sanders has been a big surprise, putting Deuce and Mafah in danger of losing a job

It would be a huge surprise to me if Deuce made the 53 and probably an indictment on our attempt to upgrade the position. I don't really expect Sanders to either, but who knows it's only June. As long as someone wins the job I'll be happy and don't really care who it is. Ideal situation would be one or, even though unlikely, maybe both of the rookies have a role, but could be anyone in a time share by year end I guess. If the OL is as good as I am hoping it will be and Dak stays healthy, our running game will be fine I think.

The OL also gives me a lot of confidence that if Dak goes down for a game or two, we will be fine. Milton has been pretty impressive so far, and that's without using his legs, which are a huge part of his game. I think if Guyton can play well, the offense could be very strong

Any Cowboy fan can come up with 20 reasons just off the top of their head why they won't likely win the NFCE...BUT...the first one is absolutely not a reason I would pick. Schotty has been preparing for this his whole life. I know BTB articles are no different than posts on here, just longer, but there are so many other reasons I would have put above that one if I were listing them. He has been around the game for a long time and is clearly a smart guy and coaching is becoming a smart person's job. McCarthy couldn't do both. I don't know if Schotty will end up a good HC or not, but if he fails it won't be because he couldn't juggle both play calling and HC responsibilities.:2cents:

I think we have a heck of a chance to beat Philly in their house opening day. If the Cowboys can do that, they can obviously hang with anyone.
The reasons to worry about this team are pretty obvious. We have been crushed by injuries the last few years. We are due some good luck. Our first 22 can hang with anyone, but there is a huge drop-off at a few spots if we get banged up.
Missing Overshown is obviously big, but we have added some solid pros in Sanborn and Murray.
LT is a worry, but all signs are positive for Guyton to take a year 2 jump so far.
Stopping the run/NT to me is the biggest concern besides injuries. The fact that we brought in two UFL NT's for tryouts last week shows they are still looking for cheap help there

Hopefully the new coaches get Guyton going. The potential is there. Decent athlete. Has the length.

Smith, Beebe, and Booker. That is kind of nasty. Shotty mentioned being more physical up front. Maybe Booker helps light a fire in Guyton and Steele.

By all accounts, Guyton has looked good so far. If he can even be average, this offense will be humming.
I also think Steele will play better. Coaching has a lot to do with his level of play

He doesn't even have to be average and a top 16 LT is probably asking a bit much for this season based on how far he has to go. I think Steele will be close to average because he has done it before and his run blocking is good. Beebe will keep improving and Tyler Smith will be great again. So if Booker is worthy of his first round status (even with first year warts) and if Guyton is not good, but not horrible, our OL will be good. If he is even just a little below average and I think that is possible, our OL will be really, really good :hope:

I think so. Steele also suffered from Martin not being his usual, dominant self.
The Cowboys get Dak back and added two difference makers in Pickens and Booker. That's a lot. The offense, barring injuries, should be real solid

It's too bad we are already guaranteed to start the season without our second best defensive player in Overshown and likely to start it without Diggs as well. There are always injuries in the NFL (so we know the yare coming) and we have two big ones before we even start. The Pickens trade changed everything for this team. I said all off season they need a couple extra stars and not just adding spare parts and that was a big one. No, not SB worthy of course yet, but certainly moving in the right direction. Getting rid of Camp Cupcake Part II alone was a huge move. It still boggles my mind that Jerry tried to extend McCarthy and that some fans were all for it. Sometimes I wonder if we watch the same games...

Yeah, if you could tell me that Overshown were healthy game 1 instead of maybe Dec, and that Diggs and Revel were there game 1 instead of likely missing some time, AND if we had actually addressed NT, then I could see us playing in that 12 win range(barring a rash of injuries like last season)

Well, bye bye to my boy Rogers, hello to Perrion Winfrey. I like to look at PFF for their rankings of the guys I see less than 5 or 6 times per year or in Winfreys case the guys I don't know well. I remember him being on the Jets but I really don't remember anything about him at all. Run defense grade 31.8 (overall grade 27.2:eek:). 6'4"290. Looks like we dropped one of our few NTs for another 3Tech. HOPEFULLY more moves on the way. Most likely a camp body, but we of need camp bodies to get through the offseason. Could be a PS guy too. The more big boys the better. Plus he's a young kid so of course could develop into a player. Maybe Thomas recommended him. Both were on the Jets

I think they wanted this kid because he was one of the best players in the UFL and skill wise, looks like a fit in Schotty's scheme. If I recall, this kid ran high 4.6's at 291. I definitely think another NT is on the way. Youre not going into a season with just Mazi and a 7th round rookie

Some truth here of course, but mostly off base if for no other reason than Dak next year still has $129M in dead money and also there is no way we are going to get Archie Manning.
