Actually, I think it's the opposite - His self-esteem is so low that he has to keep interjecting himself into the conversation just to keep up the facade that's he not totally out of his depth on virtually everything. His entire life has been based on fooling people into believing he's richer and smarter than he truly is and when cornered, he doubles down on the lies and fraud.

However, since there are no consequences, he's going to continue doing it.

There was a huge Chinese response to the tariff war and Trumps rhetoric in March/April directed at US consumers on social media particularly tiktok. I think a lot of it was Chinese govt orchestrated

Personally I don't think it's that his self-esteem is low exactly, but that he knows without an ounce of a doubt (on most days anyway; senility is a bitch) that he is a total fraud. He thinks he's the perfect conman and his bluster will hide the fact that he's out of his depth. Man was he wrong!! He's fooling no one.
