I don't even know how much the colo(u)r factor matters (I mean, it does to some extent sure), but America did twice elect Obama. I truly think there are plenty of Americans who think a woman is too emotional and weak to be president.

She proved to me she can handle the worst of the worst in how she handled Trump in the debates. I am very confident that she would be a great President and I agree with your assessment on that being a factor.. it should not be but most of America is back in the 40s-50s thinking.

Well, it's not as if there were plenty of warnings what this guy would do if he got a second term. Should have went with the much more qualified and highly competent woman of colo(u)r, but no, that's a bridge too far for millions of Americans.
We also can't forget that some people, not mentioning anyone's names, [Redacted](@sbb122 , @thedddd etc) [/Redacted] read that and actually like that and the way it sounds

I wouldn't say most. It's enough in the right (wrong) places. That and voter indifference, for profit news networks and other factors all attributed to the situation we are in now.

But if someone thinks most of America is stuck in a 40-50s mindset in regards to misogyny and bigotry - I'd think they were being as misinformed by fake news/social media as the maga crowd.

Sorry—maybe I should say that the ones in control are either already in, or at least want, that 1940s–1950s mindset. I still don’t understand how, if most of America isn’t MAGA, they won by such a landslide. I still just can't wrap my head around how any intelligent Republican could look at Trump and think, “Yeah, this guy will be good for us,” without some level of ignorance or stupidity inside them or wanting this as it is today.

Yeah, I agree with the above. When you are constantly bombarded with the message that immigrants and poor people are to blame for your lot in life and then you throw in the transgender angle and they are performing surgeries on children without their parents knowledge (none of which is true) and that is what the Democrats plan to expand on going forward, unless you do your own research, it's easy to see why why the Republicans won.

and a great family note came by this weekend.... my wife just returned from Alberta and half her family want to separate from Canada but not become part of the USA. They want to be their own country... All because they lost an election... what are we even doing these days?

More fake news social media maga bullshit. I'm not trying to argue, but just because Trump and Republicans say they won in a landslide, or got a mandate, doesn't make it true.

False equivalence, even from the so called left leaning news. Biden stammers and he's unfit for office*. Trump speaks a bunch of nonsense and the media says "what he meant was". Trump repeatedly claims gender surgeries are being performed or immigrants are eating pets - Kamala's 50 page economic plan "not detailed enough" gets more coverage. Meanwhile Trump’s plan, 1 word - "tariffs". Media, hmmm OK.

*Of course in retrospect Biden was unfit and should have dropped out earlier, possibly even removed from office. And that should be the news story that it is. But you know what a should be a bigger news story? When we have a sitting president that can't answer basic questions or keep his train of thought.

Somberish day, I'm tired of arguing how much the US sucks, even if it's warranted. I'm done

I wouldn't call running for President 3 times and never once getting 50% of the vote remotely any kind of mandate. If anything, it's a testament to the need for democratic reform to processes that better reflect the will of the people.

Trump has claimed 2020 voter fraud, but none of that is real and real democratic concerns have nearly entirely benefited the Republican Party. The ineptitude of the Electoral College, the frequency of presidential candidates losing the popular vote and still winning, the lack of representation for DC and the other 5 jurisdictions, and the Senate being weighted so that California and New York have 4 total Senators, while 20 states with much lower total population such as Wyoming, West Virginia, and Alabama have 40 in total. None of this passes the common sense test.

It's the equivalent of having the game rigged in your favor and then complaining about one call from the refs that turned out to be accurate.

You fool. Many people couldn't bear to vote for someone who "supported" genocide in Gaza (and allowed someone into office who all but guarantees it) had nothing to do with anything else. *wink*wink*

And those same people see Trump's posts like the one for Memorial Day and think that's strength. He's whinier than a middle school girl when she gets her first period.

It started with Reagan. They rounded up little bits of single issue voters to guarantee themselves 40-45% of the vote. You only care about guns? So do we! Only want to make sure gays can't be married? We got you. Only want to force women to have babies? I'm your huckleberry. Once they learned they can count on those single issue voters, they only have to trick another 5-10% (or suppress 5-10% on the other side) and they can get into power. Then, once they are there, they can also count on the single issue moron to never pay attention to the fact that they were really lying, so they can do whatever they want.

Getting an evil bastard like Murdoch to lock down their access to info makes it easier. And Russian psy-ops on Social Media finish it off. *cough*Joe Rogan*cough*. Memeing makes the disenfranchisement easier.

The stuff that happens now was only a wet dream to Reagan/Rumsfeld/Cheney etc.

Add to that "wait, there are rules that news agencies have to actually report news in an unbiased manner? Fuck that"

Also, with hindsight Kamala may have been a better Attorney General than VP. Someone with her track record in charge of making sure Jan 6th was not just swept under the rug instead of Limp old Merrick Garland would have been far more productive for the entire world.

I'm not sure I have ever been more disappointed in a public servant than I am in Garland. No teeth at all.
