Or it could be the Knicks year...and they just had a disappointing loss in game 1.
I do think they'll recover in game 2, and also win 1 of the 2 in Indy, then this series likely goes to a game 7.
New York's biggest issue is lack of depth. That could end up biting them hard as the series progresses.

Just watched Nesmith 6 threes and at least 4 of them could have been prevented or guarded better. OG and Kat played lazy ass defense multiple times and failed to step up off screens which gave him open looks.

I seriously can't believe the Knicks choked. Gonna be hard to recover from that loss. Brutal.

Let’s unpack this.

Your blame here is in the right place. It’s on the NBA, not the refs.

The ref called this play correctly based on what the current rule is. Mathurin was not in legal guarding position when Brunson crashed into him.

Foul on Mathurin continuation because contact occurred on the gather. That is the correct call based on the rule.

So let’s change the rule. Offensive player should not be able to create a foul by initiating contact just because the defender isn’t in perfect position.

That should be a no call.

One thing from last night that I don’t believe is getting enough attention…

There were quite a few calls throughout the game that Rick Carlisle could have challenged and probably won.

But he was patient.

He saved his challenge until the very end of the game and was able to use it to overturn the loose ball foul on Siakim in the closing seconds of regulation. Game is likely over if that call stands.

Then, he used his bonus challenge in the closing seconds of OT to reverse the OB call where Brunson last touched the ball.

That was absolutely fantastic challenge management by Carlisle.

1000% agree. a lot of nonsense Brunson, SGA, and others get away with goes out the window if they ever made the rule change you are suggesting

Meanwhile thibs used his challenge on a 50/50 play on Brunson 3rd foul in the 3rd quarter and of course he didn’t win it

That was one thing Thibs deserves criticism for from last night.

Rest is on the players.

My coaching theory: Carlisle has a plan to wear out the Knicks, knowing that Thibs tends to exhaust his own players with how he uses them.

Doesn’t help thibs that they are playing every other day this series
