Keep it as is, you think you were jobbed. Settle it on the field. The fraudulent North went 0-3 in the playoffs, we don’t need to change for the undeserving.
Washington won the division at 7-9 and got a home playoff game. We all knew how wrong this was. "settle it on the field" does not work when the team that has proven to be the better team is dealt a huge disadvantage for the playoffs. Seattle had the exact same situaton after going 7-9. They won that playoff game in large part because of the huge home field advantage they enjoy.

The argument there is "so win your division." For almost 40 years you had to win your division to make the playoffs in the NFL. The question was why a second-place team in a division should be in the playoffs at all.

Now half the league gets in, and we're quibbling about which second-tier team gets home field in a month of playoff games.

Yep. Systems evolve over time. We like football and the league has provided us with more high stakes football games. It’s imperative for them to constantly put their system under self study and evolve and improve when they can. Making sure that the right team hosts a playoff game is a good piece of evolution. Division championships mean very little.

Honestly I'm going to miss the worst division winner getting the home game matched up against the best wild card in rd1. For starters, you actually are putting some level of fear in not winning the division which makes the regular season matchup matter more. Secondly, often the best wild card is a team that benefitted from playing a weaker OOC schedule and the division winner with the worse record actually plays them well.

The real atrocity is the 7 seed. I think we've only gotten one good 7 seed in its existence and I dont think we've had one good game from the 2-7 matchup unless I'm blanking on something.

To each their own. Fair point about the 7 seed.

Packers beat the Cowboys in Dallas year before last and then nearly knocked off the #1 seed 49ers the next week, who took the lead with a minute left.

That's the one team, right?

Yeah but without winning the division those teams go home. Making the playoffs at all at 7-9 should be the reward, so winning the divison is still important. But once they got in a losing team should not be playing at home against a team who all season long proved they were the better team.

You need to maintain the integrity of the regular season. So 11 wins should get a bigger reward than 7 wins.

Well... we've only had this for five years, so let's go to the tape:

2020
Colts at Bills: Colts down 11 halfway through the fourth march 76 yards in five plays to score a TD and convert the two-point play, to get within three, hold the Bills, using up all their timeouts, get the ball back and convert two fourth downs to keep their drive alive and get past midfield, but the Bills hold them there as Rivers ends the game (and his career) on three straight incompletions.
Bears at Saints: Bears suck, getting a last-second TD to get within 12, 21-9.

2021
Steelers at Chiefs: get doubled up, 42-21. Pittsburgh starts the scoring in the second with a defensive TD and then KC reels off 35 straight.
Eagles at Bucs: also doubled up, 31-15, and don't even score until the fourth.

2022
Dolphins at Bills: Skylar Thompson starting for the Fins! They get a TD with 11 minutes left to get within 3, 34-31. They get the ball back twice more but the Bills hold and that's the final score.
Seahawks at 49ers: Seahawks up by one at halftime but then the 49ers run away with it. Late TD by the Seahawks makes it respectable, 41-23.

2023
Steelers at Bills: Bills stay two TDs ahead the whole time
Packers at Cowboys: The only win of the bunch - Packers smack the Cowboys 48-32

2024
Broncos at Bills: Bad game, 31-7
Packers at Eagles: Packers get within 6 to start the fourth but the Eagles add two more field goals to end it 22-10.

So three or four good games out of ten. Little trip down trivia lane.

But I also remember 1999 when Jacksonville racked up 14 wins and didn't beat a single winning team.

Whatever, we can't go so deep as to evaluate the division when we do seedings. Just make it simple.

You wish to remove the importance of the regular season by not rewarding the team who won more games. Even if a team is in the playoffs but out of the division race they should be playing important games to the end for seeding. This new system is much more fair and makes regular season games count more which is what we all want.

I forgot about that Colts Bills game. That was good.

With single elimination anything is possible. I guess it just comes down to intent. The best product would be voting the wild cards in because you could factor in Injuries, sos, and QB changes or coaching changes. If the idea is to just have a David v Goliath game with the 2 7 matchup then that could lead to special games. Just not on a regular basis.

The idea with adding the seventh team was for teams to still be in the race longer.

The Steelers at 12-1.
Good one.
I have one for the team that we most all hate here.
We all know Dallas can't win playoff games. Prescott or Romo, both shit the bed.
We all know what Dallas has been for 29 years.
We now know all teams in the NFC have been to an NFC Championship game ahead of Dallas.
The best might be what has Dallas done in the 21st century? iggloo's go to for 15 years... for sure.
so...

In the 24 seasons of the 21st century, where does Dallas rank in league regular season winning percentage?

explains the continued growth of the haters cause we all know the Dallas bandwagon fans died off in the 20th century.

no team playoff advancement, = no team fan base growth.
We all love winners.
