I don't think this draft went in the direction that anyone was predicting. If there's one thing about Sean Payton (and maybe George Paton too), their personnel decisions are never conventional. They seem to draft purely on selected fit in the system, coupled with character. Given the turnaround that we've seen in the last two years, I think I'll be sitting back and trusting how they went about the last three days. They seem to be brimming with confidence in their pressers, so I guess we gotta believe. Definitely bringing in some projects but if one or two of those pan out, we may end up looking back on this draft as a game changing event. How is everyone else feeling overall?

Draft recap:

1. Paton and Payton got caught being fancy and never recovered, though I do like 3 of their choices.
2. This was a special teams draft outside of Barron. Literally.

Paton said this was going to be his best draft yet. Went in with a glaring need at rb. We shall see.

I think the main thing is draft class proved is both Paton and Payton are confident on how long they’re gonna be around as you don’t go this heavily on drafting for scheme fit if you don’t think you’re gonna be here in 4 years when all these player contracts are due.

Drafting your Darin Sproles or Michael Thomas type player doesn’t work if you know your job security is in doubt.

I think RJ is going to have every opportunity to be the starting RB.
I’m guess that Jones and Robinson are 2-3 year projects.

With the quality and depth at TE and RB, it can’t help but being a bit disappointing to not come out with one of the top 3 in either position.

For the short term, we had a really good FA signing season.

I'm going to remain positive, until the Broncos performance changes that. Mingo would want us to keep our chins up!
  • Payton and Paton are very happy with this draft. That means something.
  • There is still talent out there with the UDFA's
  • The Broncos had a very solid FA period
  • Denver has a top flight defense and one of the best O lines
  • There are a lot of young players on this roster that will continue to develop and have greater impact (Mimms, Franklin, Vele, Estime, etc.)
  • Bo Nix's rookie season is behind him and I'm confident he'll work very hard prior to the season. Look for Payton's play book to expand.
Go Broncos!

Like it don't love it. I feel spoiled after the last two years draft classes in which I REALLY loved.

I trust the guys drafting.

I think my biggest disappointment was not getting one of Hampton, Henderson or Judkins. However, I love Jahdae Barron and he was literally the only pick that wouldn't make passing on Hampton an extremely depressing moment for me. I had my heart set on Hampton but never for a minute did Barron cross my mind to end up a Bronco, which makes it fun and sad at the same time. Love Barron.

RJ Harvey wasn't the RB I wanted when we were up again and needed a RB but I don't dislike him either. Just little letdown... I am hopeful he will end up fantastic for us. Once I focus on him and not who we passed on I will be fine.

Pat Bryant is a perfect fit for the WR role we need filled to go with Sutton, Mims and Franklin. I will be surprised if Bryant isn't a solid NFL WR.

Sai'Vion Jones is a steal and for those saying he won't contribute right away are mistaken, IMO. His role will increase in time but a pass rusher can come in and play right away and he will, IMO.

Day 3 was boring to me but we got the P I wanted.

Que Robinson has a lot of upside and can play on special teams. Hopefully contribute a bit more in year 2 on the pass rush rotation. He has a chance but wasn't high on my radar going into the draft. Not like Jones was.

Utah TE is a major project. We love Utah and that isn't a bad thing...

We got my P and that made me super excited when I heard the super fan say the name JEREMY!!! I was waiting/hoping for it. I was hoping Jeremy wouldn't turn into Kai or James. (The other punters) ;)

Once we picked up the extra pick with the trade down in Round 6 I was about 87% sure one would be a Punter.

overall, it feels nice to not have 100 needs going into the draft.

I like our RB depth so I am fine not taking TWO RB's but in such a deep RB class we didn't get one of the RB's that I was super in love with and that was a letdown for me but I am focusing on RJ now.

Overeall, not as excited of a draft for me as the last two but better then the draft 3 years ago.

Overall, I trust Paton/Payton so let's go!!!!

Too harsh, my man. Too harsh.

Offensively, this draft will determine if Peyton can build players out of his prototypes. Defensively, I really like this group. Barron is a starter. I think Jones is a potential starter next year. Robinson has significantly more upside than a typical 4th-round OLB, IMO.

I think the big thing I see with this draft is each of these players at least the earlier picks solves one of the bigger issues we had on the roster last year.

Defensively we fell apart whenever any player in the secondary went down. Throw in the Broncos struggled when we played more zone as the season progressed. So what do they do...Grab a secondary player that has played Safety, outside/slot CB and is great in zone coverage. We didn't get as many turnovers as you would like so again you grab a guy that showed especially this last year he can make the game changing play.

Offensively our run game was missing explosive plays. When Mims and Nix are the only players that could get explosive plays in the run game then we are in trouble. So the Broncos draft the guy that had the 2nd most explosive plays in college football last year only behind the guy who went 6th overall in Jeanty. On top of that vision was a huge problem for our RB's...Harvey one of his best traits is vision.

The other player I would point to is Bryant. Lil' Jordan had the 2nd most snaps of any WR on this roster last season. I think most of us would say he was a huge liability on this roster. Problem was Payton did not have a WR that can play the big slot like he needed other than LJH. So we draft the guy that is a great run blocker, has some of the best hands in the draft, and can work in the short/intermediate area in the middle of the field that was lacking last year.

Other than Barron these guys were not the top players on my board. At the same time though their strengths line up with the biggest weaknesses we had on both sides of the ball. They will be day 1 contributors.

Overall I am satisfied with this draft. I am really excited about the defense. Between the FA signings and Barron, this unit is going to be insane.

I actually didn't feel TE was a big need going in, with the EE signing. Again, assuming health/availability that major need was already addressed. I was still glad to see they picked up a late round project TE.

As much as many have expressed disappointment about the RB selection, notice the Broncos didn't pick any additional backs and as of this morning do not seem to have signed any UDFAs either. So I am guessing that is a sign the P/P duo is extremely confident in what they have in the room and the selection they made. Since we don't have a clue how Barron will transition into the league, and how the remaining backs we have on the roster will progress (or if they even will) I consider this the only remaining question mark on our roster. Last year the Broncos ranked 16th in rushing yards per game (seemed it was a lot lower) and 21st in rushing yards per attempt (again, it seemed lower). I think getting more out of the passing offense, including production from the TE group, is going to open up opportunities in the ground game too so despite the remaining question marks, I am confident we'll improve there.

Overall, the Broncos had the luxury of drafting some depth at WR and edge, or focus on BPA across their board. Oh, and that punter is going to be a fantastic addition as well. With this defense, a punter that can pin the enemy deep...

This was a very good draft, and a reflection of a team that finally has direction and a solid foundation for the first time in years.

It is nice to finally go into a draft without 15 needs. Makes the draft a lot less stressful.

Exactly. I was really expecting a RB in the first round. I know we had some needs on defense but since that unit saw some nice additions in FA I was expecting a much more offense heavy draft. It was really nice to see the picks come in and see the brilliance behind it. Again, this is a draft that reflects a team that has a solid foundation and a direction.

My general reaction to Omarion Hampton not going to the Broncos but then going to the Chargers

Fun Love GIF by Claynosaurz

I like Barron quite a bit. I'm not sure how many defenses have an elite CB on the outside and a good swiss army knife at nickel but I think thats pretty close to ideal.

RJ Harvey is interesting. His efficiency stats I believe were elite. He seems like a specialist and not a complete back. I didn't think he'd go that early.

Yeah. There is no emoji for my reaction.

Although Barron saved it from being way worse. Mixed emotions when I didn't hear Omarion but I heard Jahdae.

Then to hear Hampton to the Chargers was icky! Oh well. I can still like him and hope the Chargers lose. ;)
