this is going to be a tough round for us.......

its the AROD supporters, who are ok with the stigma... being pushed back, but seems like he is finally getting support...

then its the anti AROD guy... the clean(est) player of the era, who gets support... but vs AROD it will be interesting to see if anti AROD people just vote for Griffey,,,

all the others i dont expect will get traction this round...

we have old school Ott vs Lajoie vs Mathewson which will probably divide the old school voters we got... looking at you @UK Cowboy

Haha. Well, in picking something like this, I look at how dominant players were against the other players from their era. You can only play who is on your schedule as they say

Ha, knock it all you want. My older guys would small ball modern players to death. They would probably look like tee ball teams in bunt coverage.
As far as old man strength goes...Aaron Judge is 6'7", 282 pounds, has obviously eaten some pharmacy grade chicken and salmon in his life time. The boy can bomb it. Longest HR 496 feet. Of course, Mickey Mantle was 6' 198 pounds and hit several 500 feet....might be something to it lol

just did an interesting analysis...

deadball era was 1880-1919... 39 years

of the 494 times a player had 50 or more SB 253 of them was during the deadball era...

with an average of 66.6 SBs...

after the deadline era 1920- current... 104 years

241 times with an average of 61.91

of the 21 times someone had over 100 SBs

13 times before 1920- done by 7 different guys...

8 times 1920 or later and of those 8 times it was by 4 different players

Throw a dart at the wall and just about any of these would work. I was torn between Nap and Ott, however I will also never vote for A-roid.

This is shaping up to be a really interesting runoff.
We're at the level now where like 20 people have legit cases for the spots so it's getting weird, each vote a different rando can catch fire

I'm still enjoying this, lots of great players still to rank

I hope the 30 or so of us doing this keep going

And of course I hope most of all @calsnowskier keeps running this excellent diversion

I just hope that round 2 of the runoff is decisive. I don’t want to be the one who has to cast the deciding vote for Griffey. I put too much time and effort into this thing to have to do that…

Well a vote for arod doesn’t hurt the voting. He was a top 25 player. Easily.

You just don’t want to vote for him because of your views on steroids. There is a difference.

I cannot speak for cal but my understanding of his statements is that he cannot vote for a player who clearly broke rules and was punished for it (with possible exceptions on what he may call fringe rules).

I understand his view. Wasn’t commenting towards that. Commenting towards this being his project. Questioning whether he would rather us hurt this experiment by picking wrong or by by picking someone he just doesn’t like. But knows belongs.

I am not voting for Wayne Gretzky in this project either. Neither played baseball, as defined by MLB.

No.

It wasn’t against the rules. Even Vincent stated that his memo should not be viewed as a rule. It was just his desire that PEDs not be used. But for the next 15 years, the game publicized the PED users and rode them for all they were worth.

If they wanted PEDs to be against the rules, they should have made them against the rules.

They didn’t.

From my understanding of that memo is that it was telling everyone that it was already placed on the banned substance. The memo was just to tell everyone.
