Some of the pros trying too hard

Subban was just as annoying retired as he was playing. I was hoping Roenick would have laid him out like he used to do in ASGs.

Zegras suspended 3 games for this hit on Rasmussen*, what a dick hit. That guy's claim to fame is over when he was on the cover of the NHL game, otherwise he's a bust.

Keep doing the Michigans bro, you belong in a beer league.

Rantanen becoming an even worse debacle than PLG, but Canes have good leadership, they will get a value trade out of it....or I will be shocked

His numbers aren't good for sure, but I've watched a few games and he has been all over the net. He hasn't looked any different than he did in Colorado, biggest drop in his numbers has been shooting percentage, it's been cut in half since the trade.

Kind of the inverse of Buster, getting all these gimme points and thinking he's doing great and Rantanen not scoring so therefore he isn't a good fit, not playing well, whatever. Eye test always tells the truth no matter what the numbers or analytics say.

Canes have reportedly made a substantial offer, between $13-14 million a season. I never thought we'd see the day of something like that happening, the starting cap in 2005-06 was $39 million. Now some dude is going to make half/a third of that in a season.

I do think he is somebody. That's more snake bit than anything, He will snap out of it and produce... I don't.
Know that anybody's worth that kind of money but what do I know. One thing that is weird and very eye. Opening though, is the record since they trade. Canes are like 1 - 6 or 7 With the only win coming when Mikko was out....

Trade Alert:
Kings trade F Tyler Madden to Minnesota for D Joseph Cecconi.

Minor league players. Madden was probably never going to make it above AHL, listed as weighing 170 lbs. Frustrating issue is that Madden was component of Toffoli trade, although the draft picks were the bigger acquisition (2nd Rd in 2022), which I'm sure Blake burned for something else, or was used for #51 Jack Hughes, whom the Kings are unlikely to offer a contract to when done with NCAA.

Cecconi was a 5th Rd pick in 2015, right shot D, 6'3" 215 lbs. Has bounced around the AHL a little. Not expecting much....

More excellent asset "management" by Blake...

Madden was one who had all that hype when he was brought over, once again why a prospect is a prospect is a prospect until they prove otherwise.

Size was definitely an issue but more proof there is something wrong with the drafting, developing or both.

Copley assigned to AHL early Feb. Would you consider bringing him back over Rittich?

I read an article saying if Carolina does decide to trade Rantanen, Kings were thrown into that mix, and this article floated Rittich as a small part of a larger deal because their goaltending has been so bad, that (per this article) even Rittich would be a serviceable as an upgrade. Feels more than expendable to me. I don't honestly know what a package for Rantanen would even look like. Usually it's 4 pieces.

Brandt Clarke, Trevor Moore, 1st round pick, Rittich, and maybe something else. Saw Turcotte's name thrown in there.

Really outside of Kempe I dont see anything the Kings have that Canes would want. Clarke isnt worth anything, Turcott has lost any value, Big save Dave isnt going to be sought after by any team with a healthy starting G...he will be looked at as a product of team D, not a G that elevates the club. TOTM, will cost you to trade him. The 1st, sure its ok but most likely closer to a 2nd than a good prospect. Canes need to win now, thats why they got Rantanen....Kempe + is all they could want imo and thats doubtfully enough

TA, why your team should make a blockbuster trade but shouldn't. This is from McIndoe who's shtick is satire but funny this comes out just as we are saying Clarke should be on the move:

Los Angeles Kings

Obviously not, because: Their season has already been better than most expected, and they got their deadline reinforcements early when Drew Doughty came back.

BUT: Sure, stay the course. By the way, the course you’re staying on is “losing in the first round every single year.” Normally you might figure now would be a good time to make a call on Brandt Clarke and, if a move is the answer, do it now while he still has plenty of value. But if Rob Blake decides to play it safe and keep all his assets, I’m sure the next GM will appreciate it.

TDL is barely a week away, tine to see qhat Bowlby does which clearly indicates how he feels about the team.

Yup, that's how I see it too. Rittich is a decent goalie but not a legitimate starter, plus he's also on an expiring contract himself. Clarke, Turcotte minimal value, TOTM not productive enough for the term and cash left on his deal.

Kempe would have to be the centerpiece but he has evolved into the Kings best player overall and is on a steal of a deal. He is eligible to sign an extension this summer, we will know what his ask is and if the Kings would be willing to meet it.

Blake signed Doughty to that 8 year/$88 million deal so I don't see why they wouldn't invest in their home grown star for $10+ million AAV but hes done some crazy things so who knows.

But the Canes would start with Kempe in the conversation and even for Rantanen that weakens the Kings moving Kempe.

While I think Rantanen is the better player, I really like what Kempe has turned into and would be disappointed if he was traded even for Mikko. I think most of us hope Kempe is the Kings C for the next 6-8 seasons.

Where are you hearing this? Someone on Teh Blog posted something from X I think saying that was floating around but league sources saying it's not true. I think I just saw that yesterday or the day before.

He's got that inflated value though being Mr. Secondary assists so if it were true I'd assume it's for a big name.

Found this, looks like Kypreos started the chatter but in the article too is the guy I was referring to saying Buster isn't available.

Again though, probably an intern writing at THN.

Spot on.

Kopitar and Doughty aren't going anywhere unless they want to, so I can't see Bowlby giving either the Quick Special treatment. They're getting old but I believe will finish their careers as Kings.

That leaves Kempe as the bridge between the Cup teams and now who has experienced it all (minus a Cup), developed into a tier two star IMO and the only true player that would maximize any value in a trade. I still don't want to see him leave, but we could be having an entirely different conversation a year from now depending on how contract talks are going starting this summer no question.

I think we will see a transfer of the C this summer to him, signaling Kopitar is probably retiring at the end of next season. That should help entice Kempe to stay, also depends on what happens in the POs and contract talks. But I feel they'll get a deal done, he isn't going anywhere and it's going to be monster contact.

Ya probably Kypreos, but he was the only one that called Rantanen...so theres that I guess. Trading Buster would be admitting they screwed up (yet fucking again)....I doubt they do that
