Very impressive homer by Eldridge today at Surprise. John Miller said it cleared the berm in CF, quite a shot!
If he gets to the majors and is legit he will hit a ton of splash hit homersVery impressive homer by Eldridge today at Surprise. John Miller said it cleared the berm in CF, quite a shot!
One can only hope.If he gets to the majors and is legit he will hit a ton of splash hit homers
And absolutely no vid of it. How the hell do they not have cameras at all games, even ST games?Very impressive homer by Eldridge today at Surprise. John Miller said it cleared the berm in CF, quite a shot!

This is looking more likely by the day.2.22 Recap:
JH Lee -- lined the first pitch he saw 105 mph for a single, caught an over the shoulder line drive at the wall (bro has ZERO fear)
Luciano -- played a carom off the wall perfectly
Huff -- 2 run bomb off the team that just DFA'd him, successful challenge on a called ball
McCray -- bomb
Roupp -- 2 sharp innings
Bryce -- well, you know...110mph, 450 feet. On an 0-2 pitch where he "shortened up"
Peguero -- hit 102 on the gun; 1 IP, 2K
Teng -- clean inning, down 15 pounds of fat, velocity is up
Bad news: Murph is out a few weeks with an oblique strain. My guess is he doesn't make the squad. Early favorite is Huff, with Stassi a possibility.
At this point, the pitching rotation looks like:
Webb
JV -- this puts him on track for the home opener 4.4
Ray
Hicks
Harry
I forget…This is looking more likely by the day.

Tom Murphy Out Multiple Weeks With Herniated Disc
Giants catcher Tom Murphy is weeks behind due to a herniated disc. Heliot Ramos and Erik Miller are ailing, too. Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.www.mlbtraderumors.com
Per Slusser:
C Adrian Sugastey has a locker in the clubhouse now so I suspect Tom Murphy will be out awhile.
#foreverthankfulfarhanTom Murphy #forevergiant?
We have 1 known quantity (Webb), one experienced question mark (Ray) and one aging vet (Verlander). The rest is almost completely unknown.I go to the CBS sports web page as my go to and they had a article about the Ten best rotations with 5 honorable mentions and the Giants weren't on it. I don't know enough about other rotations. Does this seems reasonable? With the talk here it seemed as though around ten would be reasonable for this rotation. Though of course we know reporters/analysts often take the easy way and use big names who have gone past the curve and on the down slope of their careers and assume continued excellence. Also the Big Market bias. I also don't know enough of the other rotations to evaluate the Giants level.![]()
I don't think being one of the 5 honorable mentions would be outside the realm of possibility but, then again, I've not done an in-depth analysis of the other 29 rotations so maybe I'd find that our rotation could just as easily be 20th.We have 1 known quantity (Webb), one experienced question mark (Ray) and one aging vet (Verlander). The rest is almost completely unknown.
I think ranking us as a top 10 in a national context would be pushing it.

When I saw MLBTR mention Sugastey formally getting an invitation to big league camp, I read it more like the Giants felt the need to have another guy catching for the all the pitchers in camp. I think a lot would have to go right (for Sugastey and wrong for all the other guys) for him to make the team. He may be lucky to even start the year in Sacramento. Two years ago, I thought Sugastey was on his way rapidly up the ladder. However, last year he stalled in Richmond, only hitting .210 with very limited power. There may have been some injury issues as he was out from June-September. He appears to be a pretty decent defensive catcher, throwing out about 40% of would be base stealers and his fielding average is .992. (For comparison, Bailey threw out 44% of would be base stealers and his fielding average was .971 in the minors.) Bailey and Sugastey appear to be reverse images of one another. Bailey is 6' 0" and 210 lbs, Sugastey is 6' 1" and 210 lbs, Bailey hits left, Sugastey hits right. Not expecting much out of Sugastey as a backup for the Giants this year, but we could do worse I suppose.
