I don't get the heat the media is spinning at the Giants letting Barkley test free agency.
I mean the damn GM said it on the show , need to get better protection up front on the oline!

I mean don't get me wrong I'm not angry he landed with my Birds, but this whole narrative is getting whiny!

What do you expect? The NY press celebrating Barkley headed to a hated rival??
Get a drink and relax. You need to worry more about beating the Patriots in the preseason than the NY media.:heh:

holy crap you already drunk this morning pal> Little early for that?

I just find it interesting that everyone knows a running back is not valued on an NFL roster. there shouldn't be this narrative " oh the Giants dissed Barkley!'

This happens all the time mcnabb... Teams want to sign players or keep them but they are strapped for cash and just don't have the room to do it... so instead of franchising a player or stringing them along they do the nice thing and say: "Hey go test the market, and make sure to come back to us." And then the player comes back with the "I WAS DISRESPECTED - I WANT MAH RESPECT!"

Seattle did the same thing with Richard Sherman. They literally could not keep him. They had no cap to sign him. So Seattle released him so he could sign with another team early on and he did with San Fran... who gave him WAY more than Seattle could ever afford. Then Sherman whined about how Seattle disrespected him, lol. Seattle's FO said they would've loved to bring Sherman back, but they just couldn't afford what he wanted and what San Fran offered was WAAAAAAAY higher than what they could.

Same thing with Barkley. And the NY news will report whatever clickbait they can at the moment since the POTUS is a bumbling buffoon and they're all having to eat crow on that.

The media is trying to make a big deal of it up here but it's all pretty silly and no Eagles or Giants fans I know are taking the bait on it.

Bottom line is the Giants made a very logical decision to part ways with a star player who could not stay healthy, at a position they were going to devalue compared with the lines of scrimmage going forward in their cap allocations.

Eagles made a gamble of a decision to snap up a guy they considered an elite talent, even though it is uncharacteristic of them to sign a free agent running back to a large contract.

One of these two teams will be proven right and the other wrong, but the rhetoric about whether Barkley promised to go back to the team, and whether the team really wanted him, etc--who cares.

It's clear the owner was nervous about selling tickets without him though! Fire up the Passin Paesan promotions!

Furthermore... the Eagles are a contender, the Giants aren't.

A non-contender should basically never splurge on a high-$ RB... while for a contender, that *might* be a good move.

Beyond that: IMO, Saquon has lost the explosion that made him special. He's still a good RB, though... and he's in a better offense with a better O-line, so I fully expect him to put up decent stats (if healthy).

I'm skeptical of the move as you can tell, but we shall see. He reportedly looks good, so we will have to see if he can stay healthy, and if he looks to have his explosiveness back.

RB's typically age like fine milk... it's hard to hope that Saquon's former elite explosiveness will somehow snap back.

Yeah, it's unlikely he gets his rookie-era explosiveness back. The best case scenario is that he stays healthy, looks like his old self in general even if he lacks that top-end speed, and gives Philly a solid 1,200 to 1,400 yard rusher and pass catcher. I think that's doable behind the Eagles offensive line.

The Giants made the right move, as did the Eagles.

I have never watched any Hard Knocks but I did see the clips of them discussing QBs. They clearly wanted Jayden Daniels but that was not going to happen. The part I liked was when they said "if we can't get a QB we'll go with Daniel and get him a weapon, you OK with that?" which basically admitted they don't like Jones but are stuck with him.

The best thing to happen to the other NFC East teams was Jones played just well enough in his important year to force the Gmen to overpay for a QB they know will never be good enough.

I feel a little bad for DJ.

He arguably never had a chance... a mix of poor surrounding talent, abysmal O-line protection and injuries conspired to torpedo his career to this point.

Anywho... he's getting another last chance... (which is a lot more than similar QB's get)... we'll see what he does with it.

My expectations aren't that high, but Jones doesn't have to play particularly well for the Giants offense to be better than last year (which was historically bad).

I don't feel bad for Daniel Jones, my goodness. He has a huge $160 million contract everyone knows he does not deserve, and will never complete. I feel bad for some of the Giants fans who have watched a once classy franchise sink into poverty franchise status over the past two decades.

I’m not seeing eye to eye on the acquisition of Barkley. I think RB is a plug and play position in the NFL. I would have preferred that this money went to Justin Simmons. My big fear is that he won’t stay healthy this season.

As Washington fans discussed rebuilding the OL I pointed out the Giants,, who have been trying to fix this problem for years. I really thought Hernandez was a good pick and would be a very good OG but he was clearly overmatched. This has to be frustrating for you.

While it's true Jones has been in a bad situation we kind of know who Daniel Jones is. A guy who is Steve Young against Washington but Heath Shuler against the rest of the league.

Regarding Jones and the G men, it's important to remember also that DJ is coming off an ACL tear. He looks to be on schedule to make a full return by opening day, but you never know how an ACL tear will affect his game. Jones has been a scrambling QB who makes plays on the move, that's actually been some of his most effective play as a starting QB.

They won the Super Bowl in 2011-12.

They've won it TWICE in your timeframe.

Way to put all your worst takes in the same thread.

Ok you got a point. Their slide is more like a decade old. But they’ve slid as a franchise for sure.

They’re definitely in one of their desert eras as a franchise. Ironically, Daniel Jones is really more of the typical Giants QB than many want to admit. Phil Simms was much maligned and much criticized until he won big and even when he did, his back up won one of their Parcells Super Bowl so it took a little bit of gravitas away from Simms. Eli was always the lesser Manning. He was also criticized and he won 2 Super Bowls.

Giants fans are crazy. For most of their careers Simms and Eli were shit on by a good amount of the fanbase. These same jabronis that shit on the QBs would invoke their names to talk shit to you and brag.

The only thing more fun than citing this stuff with Giants fans is fucking with Michigan fans who really don’t know football. When Tom Brady was a junior and senior there Michigan fans were screaming for them to play a failed Yankees 3B prospect in Drew Henson over the greatest QB to ever play the game. Whenever you guys want to fuck with your Michigan fan friends remind them that collectively they’re fucking dumb and they don’t know ball. Drew Henson over Tom Brady. Oy vey.

So...the Giants are like the Bears, QB thirsty franchises forever sworn to scrubs. That's tragic!
