I think if we want to hand out a free playoffs spot then they should use a format very similar to this one

The WNBA Commissioner’s Cup is an in-season competition consisting of 10 games for each team in the league. The teams are split into two conferences, with both the first home and road games they play against each team in their conference counting as official Commissioner Cup games.

The teams in each conference with the highest winning percentage in Commissioner’s Cup games will advance to play each other in the aforementioned Commissioner Cup Championship. The winner receives a $500,000 prize pool for the players and a donation to a charity that the organization supports. The MVP of the championship game will also take home an additional $5,000.

5 K prize for the MVP is some Game Show Network win the big prize at the end energy haha.

The heat and lakers just made the nba version of the final 4 from these irrelevant spots

If they go this route then the IST need to be changed. Make sure group play requires you play a home and road game vs the teams in your group. This will eliminate a fluke team getting out of group play

They can sell me if they added a spot so hey if you win the IST and you are outside of the top 10 then you play the 10 seed for a play in spot

The playoffs are already diminished by the play-in games. That same 34-48 team could very well be the 10th seed, 10 games out of 8th and get into the playoffs already. This is merely an extension of the same concept. Odds are that a team that wins the tourney is in the top 2/3 of the league already anyway and this seeding is moot.
