Yeah, apparently he made a bit of a name for himself as the DC at WSU. But based on what @Shanemansj13 said, they weren't real happy with him at tOSU.

He was scapegoated a little. It's not necessarily his fault that they have an undersized front 7. That's more recruiting and on the S&C coach. My issue with him was that he never committed to what type of defense he wanted to play which was why guys were often not lined up correctly leading to the "chunk yardage" plays that teams have been able to get.

Agree completely, don’t rule out head coach interference there though. That was said about him here. I think bend don’t break is the philosophy, but it obviously didnt work either place.

Yeah, haven't heard about HC interference, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. They did get a little bit bigger through the portal. But not enough. Maybe there were some defensive players Grinch wanted but Riley went offense instead? Nothing like that has come out though.

The defense actually looked decent when he played an aggressive, blitzing scheme. It actually was how they came back from double digit deficits 3 or 4 times during the last several games, but then he'd switch back to bend but don't break.
