True. The Angels are in a very similar situation to the Clippers trying to compete with the Lakers. Which is why I understand Moreno choosing not to trade Ohtani.

To keep fans interested a team has to be able to sell winning or hope...especially when there is a bigger brand in the same market. Like the Clippers (who probably should have moved on from Kawhi and PG 2 years ago) as long as they have those 2 stars, they can sell hope.

Building around a few megastars has not worked at all. Time to go a more balanced team approach, spending like the Dodgers is not netting them Dodgers-style results.

So we agree. Unlike other franchises, they can’t “buy” their way out of deals that become bad.

Agree, the reason it hasn't worked is because they don't seem to know how to build around them. The Dodgers have 3 stars, Kersh, Mookie and Freeman. Pretty much everyone else are guys they developed in their farm system, brought in as reclamation projects from other teams or solid vets brought in to fill a specific role.

The Angels have the getting stars thing down, they just don't know how to build the rest of the roster.
