I understand the structure that you’re talking about. It’s very popular among teams. Most of the time these deals come with signing bonus of guaranteed money. When you look at the cap ledger, it’s a really small salary but at the same time, a big hunk of the bonus is immediately applied to the cap so that they can get the guaranteed money off the cap sooner and it gives the flexibility later in the contract to make a move.
wait...it's not just to help suspended players?

I kid...I kid.

well shit

I've glanced at like 20 all time special rbs and have not found a single rb that averaged 5 yards a carry in 5 straight years

Even Jim Brown came up short.

Nick Chubb is more special than I thought.

That is pretty wild.

I do think slightly easier to do that today with guys like Chubb staying fresh and getting a smaller piece of the overall pie than Jim Brown or Walter Payton would have.

But that is still a crazy stat.

16-17 games per works against him, though. Guys who are as fast as him but bigger probably makes it more difficult, too.

Say what ya will about this FO but they have a grasp on how to use the cap it seems. We are often among the highest spenders AND in cap room.

Anyone who thinks Haslam is cheap is just clueless (doesn't mean he needs to be liked, of course). Just saw we spent $516 mil in cash the last 2 seasons. Lge. avg. was around $230-240 mil. Next highest was Jags at $268 mil.
Add Njoku to the list.

Next is Denzel Ward.

I wonder about Teller, Chubb and Cooper though

St Louis is in my opinion the best baseball town. They pack them in year after year win or lose.
Great baseball fans for sure and very loyal. But they don’t bring an energy like what you see in Philly. It’s unrivaled.

This is a pitchers AB back in 2008. Crowd was on fire. Gets in Sabathia’s head and they end up walking him. Sets up a Shane Victorino Grand Slam in the next AB.

he's under contract through next year and making like 12 million. Which is a hair more than Sequan just agreed to. If Chubb is an absolute beast this year (possible) maybe he holds out for an extension but he doesn't seem the type.

Or maybe Cleveland loads up and extends him 3 or 4 years including next year idk. But year 4 he'd be 31 going on 32. It's not completely ridiculous but it's unlikely.

If they do offer an extension like that, all the guaranteed money will be in the first year or two.

Managing that work load seems to help. His two maxed out usage years for carries and receptions (2019 and 2022) were actually his lowest YPC (but still 5.0 at minimum). Not a huge difference, but it's there.

Plus, those numbers are a bit skewed. The only way the numbers get that much higher are because the contracts were heavily loaded with signing bonuses. There is a (weak) salary cap, after all.
