So if RR were to get a win against a poor playoff team and then lose 38-7 in the second round, you believe that is an improvement and warrants RR keeping his job?

IF we get in as the #7 seed we will play the #2 seed. So beating the #2 NFC team in the playoffs is an improvement.

Not really.

7-9
7-10
8-8-1.

At his rate of improvement, we will win 10 games in 2026. You are the one who likes to say when you make the postseason anything can happen…that is because inferior teams can pull off a win every once in a while…and teams with 13 wins are really not that good.

An improvement is not based on a single game. A single game is just a snap shot result. An improvement is based on the product.

In my scenario RR would have made the playoffs 2 out of his 4 years here and have a playoff win against a #2 seed if we are the #7 seed. Saying we get 9 wins this year. RR's defense has been very good here that's an improvement.

7-9 wins is avg dean , that wont cut it and a playoff win would be nice but it isnt enough to keep a sub 500 career HC around

He made the playoffs with a losing record. That doesn’t make us a good team. It meant we were in a shity division.

Agreed. We all think RR is a great guy, I was happy with the hire although I was dead set against him getting full control. And this roster is better than the one he inherited. But it's been 4 years now and what this organization is producing is just not good enough. As posted given his history there is little doubt Harris will clean house without a deep playoff run and this team is not doing that.

On a different note my prediction of Sam Howell is this. He will come out looking great and the fans will fall in love with him for the simple fact that given what we have seen at the position any competent play will look better than it really is. He will end up at the Daniel Jones level. Just good enough to hold the starting job but really not good enough to take them where they want to go in today's NFL
Good post.

I am not understanding where this is all going. Why are hypothetical situations being submitted for the sake of keeping Rivera? Looking at the totality of what Rivera has accomplished just as a HC in his career, why would new ownership want to have him rebuild the foundation of the franchise?

Here are the facts:

Rivera has NOT had a winning season in past 5 seasons as a HC (CAR/WSH)
Rivera has 3 winning seasons out of 12 as a HC
As a GM, Rivera still has NOT identified and developed a QB for this organization

Generally, in business, past performance is an indication of future results. Not all the time, but that is a good rule of thumb. If this is the case, what has Rivera done historically to keep his job? Can anyone name a HC who has had 5 straight losing seasons BUT still is a HC?

One fluke season does not erase 9 seasons of mediocrity..... especially the last 5 seasons with two organizations. I am not understanding Dean's loyalty to a coach who has accomplished so little.

Pointing out 2020 as a successful year for the team makes no sense. It was circumstance...not coaching and talent. We won the division in the COVID year because of catastrophic injuries to the Giants/Cowboys and because Philly tanked in the final game. Even the Giants went public with their frustration. Counting that is evidence of Rivera's influence and vision is absurd.

The agenda posting is just insane. Why is there a sudden loyalty to Rivera? I am lost here? Coming up with hypothetical situations that are a stretch in order to convince everyone of your point of view is irresponsible. Just my opinion.

You mean to tell me that Harris/Magic will jump on a conference call and determine that Rivera is the best GM they can find to build the team and compete in the future?

still counts as a playoff berth and we gave the eventual Super Bowl champions a good game. Didn't get blown out.

It doesn’t make us a good team or improved.

What is a better team?
1- A team that goes 7-9 , wins the division, and lost to the ten win team.

2- A team that goes 10-6, misses the playoffs, and beat the 7-9 team.

the whole point the regular season is to get into the playoffs. That is goal #1

yes in the regular season and they were undefeated.

You miss the point. We beat the number one team in the NFC last season. You are making a deal about beating the #2 seed just because it was the playoffs.

A single game is not a measuring stick for improvement just because it is a playoff game.

its a playoff game!! Knocking off the #2 seed in a playoff game is a big deal and WOULD save RR job. the debate here is you don't think winning a playoff game would save RR.

Again, WHY are we trying to save Rivera's job? Can someone explain this to me?

We are now doing mental gymnastics to agree on a scenario where he stays.

Actually, you are the only one who is hell bent on him staying if we win a playoff game.

not hell bent. I just think he stays. Dgreen posts it would be an accomplishment if we get a playoff win.

You are having issues with the meanings of words again. I never said it would not be an accomplishment. I said it is not necessarily an improvement of the team.

DG did say he feels it is an improvement…I simply said it is not necessarily an improvement of the team. It is an improvement of where we finish.

But you believe it won't save RR job. I say it will. So a winning season and a playoff win doesn't keep RR here for you. got it! DG also say he agrees with me on the playoff win. you disagreed.

I never said that. I said it would depend. Also, give DG a chance to answer my scenario of the NYG.
