Why trade Claypool?

Not sure what Pittsburgh is doing.
I think it is the fact they got a 2nd round pick for him and he didn’t fit in with their god awful offensive system.

Come next year they will have Austin and whoever else they draft.

You're in the minority thinking the Bears won that trade, and in no way in hell does Claypool make up for the guys they shipped off.
Never said they won it, it works for both teams.

The Steelers have Johnson and a rookie in Pickens.....Claypool was odd man out. The Bears got another WR to pair with Mooney.

I wouldn't have made that trade. Could have drafted another Claypool type player to have on a rookie contract.

Sux to lose a 1st but I can’t complain much about it. We need to get more pressure on the QB.
It's the niners first and if they keep winning there's no way they get a DE this good. Key is health and this will be great for the Fins. I think it's also good for Denver so hopefully win/win.

Hockenson last year:
84 targets 61 catches 586 yards 4 TD's

Conklin last year:
87 targets 61 catches 593 yards 3 TD's.

The difference between them is nothing more than usage. Hockenson is NOT a dynamic TE that is going to haul in a ton of balls Kelce style. And he isnt even close to the same type of player that Kittle is both in the YAC and in blocking.

His stats are a product of being a 1st round draft pick who was forced the ball for a long time in order for a GM/team to prove they didnt miss on an early draft pick. I guarantee you that he has one of the worst receptions per target percentage of any TE around the league.

And Hockenson was exposed as a blocker after everyone thought he was pretty good his first couple years once Detroit actually put a competent OL around him.

He's a solid TE. Nothing more, nothing less. A little bit better than league average. And maybe he has some untapped potential that the Vikes can get out of him. But I wouldn't have ultra high expectations simply because he is NOT a huge difference maker on the football field.

But he certainly fills a needed hole on the football field for us. So that is good. And unlike our bust TE in Smith, he will be able to play the inline position better while still also representing someone that the defense can not ignore like they would a non pass catching threat like Mundt.
You could have let the Rams have Mundt back.

Good luck...dude is a legend in his own mind. LOL
Feels a LOT like the Justin Gilbert reclamation project that Tomlin thought was a good idea, ironically back in 2016 as well. Steelers traded a 6th for him. Steelers gave up less for WJ3, thankfully. A conditional 6th in 2025.

FWIW Justin Gilbert only played like 11 defensive snaps. But he became a quality kick return guy lol.

This didn't age well.

They traded for Claypool. To be Justin's #1 receiver.
Na... not their #1. That will still be Mooney. As long as he can be a #2 or in rotation at #2 and block, since the Bears are run heavy, that's good enough. If he doesn't work out, it is a year and a half rental costing 1 of 2, second round picks. Kmet was a 2nd round pick and we can see how ... meh... 2nd round picks can be.

Man if mooney is your one, why trade for claypool? If your 1 is getting that little useage, why trade a second for someone whose gonna get even less.

Better to have two decent WR then one is why.
I dont disagree. But if your only gonna target them 3 times a game. You can spend your resources elsewhere. Its better to have decent players at all positions.
