I had them around 7 wins before the season as well. I was way too pessimistic about the offense, and so far it looks worse than I thought. Tomlin isn’t going to move on from Canada, and by the time he finally puts in Pickett it will likely be too late.

That said, Tomlin’s M-O is to right the ship and somehow contend even with a shit cast of coaches and/or offense, defense, etc. He typically finds a way which ends up dragging out the inevitable. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if they got to .500 again
yeah, that's been Tomlin's M-O with a HOF qb lined up in the shotgun; he doesn't have that anymore. I just don't see it.

Trubs has completed 14 of 19 passes for 143 yards and most importantly......they are winning, 14-13.

And they lost.

Shows how bad Baker Muh field was that a backup journeyman already looks so much better than him lol

I liked the pregame bit with Fitzpatrick and the orchestra.

He did it with Mason & Duck in 2019. Which is debatably worse than Mitch & Kenny. He still has the defensive firepower to do it again.

Some players go in early and learn. Others go in early and learn the wrong things. I wouldn't mind seeing Sam Howell get some playing time for the Commanders this season. He isn't ready to play good football yet but he looked ready to learn from the experience. I wouldn't want to see Matt Corral play for the Panthers this season under any circumstances because he looked totally lost in preseason.

Pickett isn't a top 8 overall pick. There's not really a lot of point comparing him to top 8 picks, (and mostly #1 overall picks). If you want to do that then it would be fairer to compare him to ALL QBs picked in the top 8, many of whom buckled as rookies. Then again, he isn't a top 8 pick.

He should have been a top 10 pick, and I firmly believe this. I also believe in 2-3 years time this will be gospel.

Pickett didn't get enough credit for the player he is during the draft process. Everyone wanted to focus on his hand size instead.

He was definitely looked at as a top 10 guy before his hand size deal.

I'm still amazed he fell when there were 3-4 teams in desperation mode at QB within the top 10-12 picks. My ideal scenario pre-draft was the Steelers moved UP into the teens to grab Kenny if he fell outside the top 10.

I'm floored that he dropped to them at 20.

I'd say I hope it works out for you but I don't

No offense lol

There was a group-think opinion that the 2022 QB Draft class was poor and that became a stigma on all the QBs - valid or not. From what I saw in the preseason games this was a pretty decent group. I didn't see superstars but I saw multiple QBs I thought would be around for 6-10 years.

I think part of it was them looking forward to Stroud and Young also

The problem with Trubisky is that he isnt even really a good 'bridge' QB. Compare to Brissett on the other side. Thats a bridge QB. He'll make 1 read throws with good accuracy and he wont turn the ball over. Puts his body on the line to routinely pick up 3rd and 4th and short. You put pieces around a QB like that and he'll win and if you dont put pieces around him you'll lose but there is a level of dependability there imo. Trubisky is a failed franchise QB without a niche. Can't blame it on Nagy anymore. He hasn't done much and Fields looks like a bit of a mess, too.

Week 5 is Buffalo, Week 6 is Tampa Bay. I suspect we'll see Pickett in week 7. No point in putting Pickett against Buf and TB imo if you've kept him out against the Browns backups.

eh...i'd have to look at the numbers, but i'm pretty sure opposing defenses weren't quite as aggressive as they started to become, towards the tail end of 2020, keeping everyone in the box and daring the steelers offense to go further than 10 yards downfield. i'd be willing to bet my next paycheck that if you brought in duck, and went back and forth between him and mason NOW, it would be a much different story.
