To be fair I'd like to see what the exact verbiage is. Because I highly doubt it says he can do whatever he wants.

They established a 6 game protocol for non violent offenders as an example.
no they havent

Keep seeing this but what does it really even mean they are appealing for a year? They make the decision so are they simply saying it's now a year (or indefinite)?
Not exactly. The league appealed the arbitrator's decision. The appeal will be heard by Goodell or his designee. That person will then decide what the punishment will be. The league is reported wanting the punishment to be indefinite or a year long to go with a steep fine, but that decision hasn't been made yet. It will reportedly be made within the next couple of weeks (before the season). If Watson or the NFLPA doesn't like the punishment handed down from the appeal, they can file suit in federal court and try to stop it there.

I'll add that the use of the "precedent", IMO, has been incorrectly applied as well. Nearly all of the cases that would be "similar" to Watson involve 1, maybe 2, victims. So, if we are really going to look at the past decisions as precedent, then the amount of women who have filed complaints should also be taken into consideration. To not include this into the decision would be to only take half of the "precedents" set before them.

Looking more at the Elliot suspension as a mirror, that was 6 games and 1 complaint. Even Winston was 3 games and 1 complaint. If you took a middle road to those two "precedents" that would be about 4.5 games per complaint/victim. Even if you only considered the 4 cases the NFL brought before the arbiter, and not the 24 the filed - that's roughly 18 games - or a full season.

I don't buy in any way, shape, or form that these incidents should be acted upon as 1 inclusive incident considering that they took part over 17 full months. This isn't like he went on a binger for a few weeks, or even a month or two...there was a clear, and disturbing, pattern in which he was preying on women.

Let's also remember that just because a player, or players, in the past got of light doesn't mean that it was right, or the correct ruling. To continue to use a faulty ruling to make more bad rulings is idiotic. Especially since how the process works now favors the NFL heavily - and allows them to correct, what they may perceive, as a wrong with suspensions for these issues having historically been too lenient.

this whole idea from Judge Judy about the players not being given notice & non violent offenders BS forced her hand at just 6 games is totally BS.
They changed the whole dynamic with hiring her. Her whole reason for her being there was notice that it was supposed to change. She completely failed at her job. Acting like she wanted to do more but her hands were tied on what she can do as far as suspensions is a cop out. There was zero precedence under this scenario. The Players & NFLPA agreed to these changes. Even after finding him egregiously guilty, did a hand slap.
Her reasoning for the sentencing is full of shit.

Why do the Texans matter? That would be the only game I would allow him to play during the season so Watson can beat the Texans ass for permitting and helping assist in this issue. I would suspend him for 16 games with the only game he is allowed to play is against the Texans. haha

We've not seen Watson play in over a year. There is no guarantee that he is going to pick up right where he left off. Hopefully he has kept himself in football shape.

Davis Mills actually put up decent numbers last year. I think he'll take the next step this year. I am surprised that Texans / Browns game was not a scheduled a prime time game.

Geeze, try posting without an attitude...

Thought I had heard he did some solicitation as well. If I'm wrong simply say so...
The supposed evidence was illegally obtained by police - on purpose.
They were trying to embarress men instead of prosecute properly.
Case was thrown out. Publicly, fans (haters or misinformed) have carried on about this.
Unsuprisingly, the Miami fans and fans of teams with painful losses to the Pats have carried on the most
Apologies if I seemed to have an atitude.....

"sometimes"? You clearly lack self control and are a compulsive liar....which makes you free comic relief.
Actually it's sometimes I enjoy trying to slap the stupid out of you. It's a great work out.

Under the CBA, the league is the last word on the issue. They're gonna get the punishment they want. Whether that is a year or indefinite or 12 games or whatever. Watson and the union can sue in federal court to try and stop it but that's unlikely to be successful.

Not in December lol. It would've been replaced with a game with playoff implications instead anyway.

Right,

  • At the start of this process, the NFL is the DA offering Watson a plea deal.
  • Watson turns down the plea deal and opts to go to Trial.
  • Watson wins a better deal at Trial.
  • The NFL wants to appeal the decision to a higher Court.
  • But here is the rub, ....Goodell is the Judge in that Higher court.
