Supposedly they never even made an offer to him since FA started, because they knew he would get a big offer they could easily match without it.

The only risk to their move would've been if he just signed the QO...which would've caused next summer to be INSANE.

Perk said something tonight and it all made sense. They did not want to offer the 5th year and if you remember in the fall that was the reason they could not come to an agreement. By allowing him to sign with another team, it guarantees the longest deal he can get is 4 which is what they wanted to offer all along
