Again just speculation but maybe it’s just a desire to have one more run and not necessarily a new deal for Kyrie.

Also possible. At this point, very little would surprise me...especially with KD and Kyrie.

As much as I like the idea of Kyrie's talent on the Lakers, I'm kind of starting to hope for the Indy trade just to get over all of this Kyrie/KD/Nets stuff. lol

They have acquired some solid players in Warren and O'Neale. If they lower their standards for a trade in KD.....ie getting some good players and not great players.....they could still be competitive and not a total disaster.
But not a contender without KD and Kyrie.

That’s a big factor. You do everything you can to salvage the shot to contend before moving on.
They just can't be god awful because the picks going to the Rockets.

Surprised they didn't put any protections on those picks.

I am not sure why the Lakers would consider the input of James the GM/Player on Kyrie when Turner and Hield are there and the Lakers want those two more than Kyrie. Have not the Lakers learned anything from last year when James, the GM was given a lot of rope and the result was a complete an utter cluster?

A recent article indicates that James and Westbrook were at the Lakers Summer league game and alot was made about the maintained distance in the arena between James and Westbrook and the observed consistent avoidance. Not sure that has much to do about anything but continuing to give James alot more input than perhaps he should receive remains a mystery.

Perhaps the most pressing issue focus should be on moving Westbrook. That is going to be tough in light of nobody in their right mind wants Westbrook and that is going to be a problem until he actually leaves.

I disagree.

They would love westbrooks contract if they could get off longer contracts lol

True. But depending on the contracts they got back in a KD trade, they could be a playoff quality team this year and go into the next off-season with enough cap space/trade pieces to maybe be a contender then.

Right now, it seems like they've been caught off guard that the market for KD isn't what they thought it would be. I also wonder if that is part of why KD has apparently ''gone dark''.

Having Ben and those shooters makes it easy for them to not be horrendous

Yep, that's a big part of why the Lakers are trying to move Westbrook now even though just keeping him and trying to use cap space to replace him next season might be the better long term move.

From a ''basketball fit'' perspective, I don't think they can really go wrong. Hield and Turner would seem to fit a little better than Kyrie. But given Lebron's age, having someone like Kyrie, who can run the offense at times without driving it off a cliff, would be a huge help in getting Lebron to the playoffs rested and healthy.

It's the crazy that comes with Kyrie that can cause things to go off the rails.

And I believe the phrase you were looking for is ''Lighten up, Francis''.
Yeah, James needs to lighten his load and Irving helps him do that more than Hield and Turner. Although Hield showed some playmaking abilities with that Pacers team averaging almost 5apg. Irving could essentially be the backup PG when James is resting (we all know James is the de facto starting PG).

And the potential upside with Irving is higher with him than Hield and Turner.

Lighten up, Frances.....when you're insulting another man.

Anyone thinking about anything past next year with Lebron is ignoring Father Time.

They would bring in Irving as a FA and go shopping for some more groceries.

Idk honestly…Lebron definitely wants back in CLE eventually, whether that is next year or later, it will happen. I really do think Windhorst is right. No extension for LeVert, if Sexton takes the QO or take a 1 and 1 with a team option something like that, they are set up to go after him. They need a wing and he fits the mold. They definitely would pursue him and he would definitely consider it. If Kyrie isn’t on LA by next offseason and the Lakers keep falling short, don’t be surprised.

The #1 goal for him is playing with his son but until that is possible…it’s winning. He played in CLE while earning money didn’t he? Winning is still everything, don’t be confused. With LA without assets or good pieces and CLE with basically the opposite situation right now…it could happen.

Honestly, while I like having Lebron on the team, it wouldn't bother me all that much if he did leave. The cap space created by him and Westbrook leaving could put a really nice, young roster around AD.

I like their lineup if they run it back.

Deep.

Good shooting

Needs another big bodied center who doesn’t have a fork in his back, but pretty solid
