Do you really think that an athlete that wants out of Philly so strongly as to sit out the season would fake an injury after finally getting what he wants, lol?

This is where these folks lose me. I can understand and even buy into him exaggerating or faking his mental issues to avoid playing for the Sixers and still get paid. I could even understand thinking that maybe he exaggerated the back issue because he just decided he wanted to ''punt'' the season and focus on next year.

But folks suggesting that he's faking a surgery....that reeks of desperately clinging to a narrative.

Yep.

Do many athletes sit an entire season and then announce to the world they are playing a pivotal game 4 playoff game? And after not playing a second all season then suddenly be ruled out and then within 2 weeks be under a knife?

If you can think of a single example I'd be glad to hear it.

You are really grasping at straws here. Simmons situation is pretty unique.

If he shot himself in the head, people here would say he only did it to prove he wasn’t faking.

At some point people need to realize that the man isn’t right in the head. Whatever is going on, it is more than Simmons “trying to steal money”.

I just don’t think the back thing has anything at all to do with whether Philly has to pay him or not, he had to pass a physical.

I thought it was a joke about faking the surgery. I just think people feel like they are giving him a pass for other things if they allow the surgery as proof of ANYTHING.

YES!
He should have just stayed under that bus his coach and team mates threw him under.
Bad take. He was all up in his feels over two comments when he was overwhelmingly supported through being a playoff no show through multiple series in his time as a Sixer. Life is hard. Competition is hard. Those things get harder when you’re programmed to be a soft ass bitch with no spine. Maybe this surgery will grant him a little back bone. Time will tell.

A prime example of why he didn't want to play in Philly any longer.

To review he passed up a wide open dunk because he as afraid he would get fouled and be forced to shoot free throws. Then he crawled into the fetal position when fans were mean to him for being a flat out pussy and refused to play again in Philadelphia.

Yeah he made is own problems for himself.

I know right? He makes 30 million a year because people care. But that’s on brand with a guy like Simmons. Let me get all the benefits but I’m above any kind of give and take. I want to be a professional basketball player that doesn’t shoot the basketball but I don’t want to be criticized for that. Wah Wah Wah.

I don’t hold Ben blameless, but the 76ers organization also had a significant role in how this all unfolded and you seem to completely ignore that.

May no one in your family ever have mental health issues.

If he has a mental health issue, genius, that emanates from his brain chemistry and the way in which he interacts with the world. Is every employer in the world responsible for the millions of Americans suffering from mental health issues? Take your bleeding heart and shove it directly up your rectum. The Sixers and Sixers fans did nothing but support the dude until he quit.

That is patently false.

You may have supported him for a long time…

But you most definitely did not support him after the playoff loss to the Hawks.

Go back and read the comments on the 6er/ATL thread from last year for a glimpse of how Philly fans “supported him”.

They way that the organization and the fans chose not to support him directly led to him quitting.

And yes, absolutely created a toxic work environment that would be brutal for someone dealing with any type of mental health issue.

I'm exceptionally perplexed at why people make so many excuses for this dude. I actually happen to agree Philly equally contributed to his wanting out....where I part ways is with a guy who insisted it was a mental thing...then when it could have came down to him not getting paid the old back injury flares up...and then he is ready to play, but oh no me back hurts so im out for the rest of the year.

But yea...still have mental issues and oh...did you guys actually expect me to work out or stay in shape while I was out?
If he was the qb of your favorite football team I doubt any of you would be so sympathetic. But because for some ungodly reason a former number one with all star talent is not seen as a leader in any way shape or form despite a 100 million dollar plus price tag.

Had he stuck with the mental narrative all year I could maybe see it. But the dude pussyfooted all year long wirh coming back.

This is the give and take with sports. If Ben Simmons can’t deal with the criticism that comes with being a professional athlete that’s on Ben Simmons.

I agree.

But don’t say you always supported him.

Because you didn’t.

He didn’t quit on the 6ers until AFTER 6er fans quit on him.
