"Hope" is a four letter word to me.

Means you have taken the perspective that you have no control of the outcome and have put it in someone else's hands or chance to control the outcome.

With $52m + ~$60mil I think TEX has some ideas of things they are going to employ to make sure he is dominant ... rather than just "hoping" he is.

You can bet that signing Tateyama and trading for Uehara were part of their Darvish plan that they started work on a year ago.

Hopefully Uehara feels better about staying in Texas now.

Don't see Tateyama being a major part of the bullpen this year, Darvish or no Darvish

and yet it is still "hope" until he shows he can be dominant like most(including me) thinks he can......and noticed i used the word dominant.which is different than hope he does good

Has nothing to do with whether he is a fit or not. Has everything to do that he and Darvish were team mates on the Ham Fighters for 4 of the past 5 seasons covering all of Darvish Japan league play except last season. Tateyama (and to an extent Uehara) will be comfort blanket for Darvish.

Matsuzaka problems in BOS have been attributed to management not recognizing his training program and not having an ear and shoulder to lean on that understood him. I think TEX began planning the Darvish acquisition long ago ... and one of the more outward steps was in signing Tateyama knowing his close relationship with Darvish could be key in not just signing Darvish ... but in getting him ready for MLB action.

With ODay gone ... and if Ogando goes to the bullpen ... (rotaton: Lewis, Holland, Darvish, Harrison, Feliz) ... then Mark Lowe is redundant since he is a lesser talent with less diversity than Ogando. Tateyama provides a different look than Lowe ... and then there is his tie to Darvish too ... so I think Tateyama's value is higher than Lowe's.

We shall see.

Lowe has loads more talent than Tateyama, but if the Rangers feel the need to burn a roster spot I prefer it be on an extra position player rather than on a guy who's job will be to give handjobs to Darvish in the bullpen

If you are truely in charge of a process ... the desired outcome can never be left to "hope". Using dominant over good as the modifier doesn't change the fact that if you are "hoping" then you are abdicating any responsibility for making the result happen.

(I learned this lesson personally when once upon a time when a 4 star general asked me "Will (a specific military action) happen today as planned?" And I said in response "I hope so". His response to me was not pretty.

He was the one who explained to me very clearly in excrutiating detail that "hope" is a 4-letter word ... unfortunately for me in front of about 50 other officers. I haven't forgotten that lesson and the word "hope" is a red flag whenever I see it or hear it.)

If Lowe is not with the big club, then he will be traded. He pitched too well once he got his mechanics right to relegate him to the minors.

Think you have that right in spades. Plus Darvish signing just doubled Fielder's desire to be in TEX too. IMO

I'm telling you look for fielder to sign a 5-6 year deal maybe with an option at maybe 120m with Texas in the next 10-15 days or so. Sources suggest Fielder wants a chance to win a ring now and Texas is his best chance at that.

Fielder reportedly turned down a 6yr 120m deal from the brewers early on. I have a feeling Texas goes to him and says "look at our lineup. Look at who we just signed. We're back to back AL champs. We're planning on another trip to the WS with or without you. Do you want to be on board or not?" Just dangle that out in front of him and let him sleep on it. He'll be begging Boras to make a creative deal so he can play with this team.

What would Darvish be doing in the bullpen?

As for "Lowe having loads more talent than Tateyama" ... who gave up the 428foot HR (earning him the loss) to Freese in the bottom of the 11th in Game 6? Answer: Mark Lowe

With Ogando in the bullpen ... Lowe is redunant and doesn't get a roster spot. With a 12 man pitching staff ... that leaves TEX with 5 SPs and 7 man bullpen consisting of ...

Closer: Nathan
Setup: Adams
RH: Uehara, Ogando, Tateyama
LH: 2 guys TBD (Gonzalez? Kirkman?)

Only hope that Lowe has IMO is if TEX considers Uehara's strength against LH hitters to be good enough to not carry 2 LH RPs. TEX isn't going to carry only an 11man pitching staff when a 14th position player isn't going to contribute to wins as much as the 7th pitcher in the bullpen.

Exactly how TEX should present it. He'll even beg to have it back loaded so TEX has the money to make sure Napoli and Hamilton are signed long term too.

Lowe was just coming off an injury and that was the first live game he'd pitched in. It's a little classless to point at that. Uehara can't carry a huge workload and his main job may be getting lefties.

Classless? Really? Lowe gave up a 3-2 HR to Freese and was the lower. What is classless about the facts? Uehara got worn down by his work early in the season at BAL ... in an appropriate role in front of Adams and Nathan ... he'll be far more effective.

No way does TEX insert Lowe into a 7th inning role and leave Uehara in the bullpen as the #2 "LOOGY".

Let me ask this ... if Ogando is in the bullpen ... who does he bump? Who is Ogando most like that becomes redundant because his look to hitters is the same as Ogando's look?

At that point I'm not so sure it's not just about raw talent, but I see your point. Tateyama brings an o'day type look to the pen and was very effective until he tired out.

You're right, Tateyama will resume his role as chief bomb giver upper, he serves a role

And I had a choice at the time, Tateyama in the dugout, or Darvish in the bullpen, I should have said clubhouse shower

You are a good baseball thinker but we don't need the trash.

At least Tateyama didn't give up 428 foot walk off HRs to lose the WS like Lowe did.
