Guardians of the Galaxy is a pretty damn good game
That’s what I’m playing right now. I’m currently on Knowhere. I’ve been enjoying it. It’s hard but a good type of hard.

I'm playing Skyrim for the I don't even know how many times.

Trying it as a true 100% destruction mage. It's tough.

Beat Blasphemous. Its a Spanish themed Metroidvania.

Great art style, great music, punishing platforming. Combat feels good for the most part but missing a dash attack leaves you really open as does landing a finisher. This is the kind of game that you can beat once in 12 hours without a guide and then use the guide and get the good ending and all of the stuff in 8 hours the second time. Most of the bosses have a moderate difficulty but nothing that can't be beaten within 2 or 3 tries. A couple of the final bosses (dlc?) almost require parrying which isnt really emphasized in the game at all. In a linear game I would probably call bad game design but you're supposed to get lost or try and figure things out in metroidvania's so this is par for the course. Massive spike in difficulty in the final boss and dlc bosses, too. Overall impression of the game is about 50% action platformer with a great map, 30% boss battles, and 20% what the heck do I do now? Good game. Glad I went through it but I think people who play games for stories should look elsewhere.

I'm definitely not gaming as much as I used to. I think Im fine with that.

My son's playing that.

It seems like more of a chore than an actual fun time. And every time he loses a dino, which happens a lot, he gets surly until he finds it.

I'm just having a blast assassinating people and listening to sea shanties in AC: Odyssey.

I finished this. In this a character relived the same day over and over again. To break the loop he needed to kill 6 targets in the same day. As they were all over the place he needed to find creative ways to get them in areas he could kill during the same day.

The game was interesting and clever, but not as much fun to play as it should have been.

Was playing Dark Souls 4 (Elden Ring) but kind of got bored and shelved it for now. I thought we were getting something 'new' but it's Dark Souls 3 with a lackluster open map. Bleh. Boring. And then the tech issues. When a 3090 RTX (for basically all users) is dropping to 40 FPS or seeing spikes in frames? Uh, go fix your fuckin' game From Software. PS5/XBOX users are reporting glitches, corrupted saves, etc. as well.

Probably go back to finishing Far Cry 6, start into Horizon New Dawn (never played the first game) and try out some other stuff in my library I never got around to (Batman Arkham Knight seems good).

I've played through both Horizon Zero Dawn and Batman Arkham Knight. They both have some interesting components but I think they both have some issues, too. Most people say Horizon Forbidden West is improved in almost every way while Arkham Knight might be the weakest Arkham game. I'd say both games are 7/10 type of games.

Anyways, right now Im playing Persona 5 Royal. Its good but being a grown man playing an anime game is kinda weird sometimes. Im thinking about dropping it for Jedi Fallen Order. Have you played that?

I have played Jedi Fallen Order and it was a very good game. I've actually compared it a little to Elden Ring and think Fallen Order is a more enjoyable experience. The story is good, the sound/graphics of course are great (Star Wars/EA) and most importantly for a Souls style game, the CONTROLS are very nice. Mouse/keyboard works just fine, and the controller is much more responsive than Souls games.

There's 4 difficulties. I'd say the hardest difficulty is more in line with Souls but probably still more manageable but mostly because the controls are tighter. But also story mode if you just want to have a casual go at it. I think even the 3rd highest difficulty is still pretty easy, but whatever.

I have beaten Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 so Ill probably give Fallen Order a try on hard. Im actually excited for a good Star Wars game. Book of Bobba Fett left me wanting more.

edit - Im actually looking back at my Horizon Zero Dawn thoughts and I actually have it as an 8/10. I really liked the combat and the story but I wasnt a fan of the world and characters.

Circled back around to playing Cyberpunk 2077 again. I just finished playing Valkyria Chronicles 4, that game was the most fun I have had playing in a long time. I love tactical RPGs and adding tanks is never a bad idea.

Yah, I was waiting for PC for Horizon... and waiting for a sale... and then waiting for my new computer build (which I procrastinated doing) which has a 5900x and 3900 RTX so the game will max settings and FPS amazingly. And Forbidden West probably wont be on PC for a while.

That said, if you've beat BBourne and DS3, you'll have no problem with Fallen Order, even at the highest difficulty. It is more parry based like Sekiro, but it's quick to pick up and the controls again are responsive. I played on mouse and keyboard and the parry/block button mapped to right click makes it a pretty big cakewalk IMO.... because you can click so fast with the right mouse button. Once you get the timing and moves down a little it's pretty easy. There are some challenging bosses though that took me a few tries.

Again, great graphics and sound. Star Wars EA does that so well. Great controls, pretty damn good story, and some fun dialogue. It's not entirely open world though and is still a little linear. There's like 4 planets that you'll visit but the pathing you takes is linear kind of like DS3. You can visit planets at any time, but some are locked until you progress to acquire skills or complete story. So it's a bit more like DS3 for the map, but that's fine. I was actually pretty disappointed by the open map in Dark Souls 4, yet all the fanboys and critics are for some reason GUSHING about it. Skyrim was an amazing open map/world and Besthesda games were revolutionary in that regard... not what From Software did in Dark Souls 4.

And lastly, there's not a lot of discovery items. You have a lightsaber and outside of your force powers that is your only item. No thermal detonators, blasters, rocket launchers, stun guns, bowcaster, jetpacks, etc. The only items to really discover are lightsaber cosmetic upgrades, your little droid and ship skins, and some stim pack (health) upgrades which work like flasks... you have a skill tree though and you can choose different paths but eventually you generally unlock everything.

I never got around to playing it. It was confusing. It took two days to download off Gamepass but for some reason I had to buy add on packages? I had no experience with those type of games so meh.

It's been a month since I wrote that. Ooh sweet summer child, I was.

I hate Ark. I hate how much he's playing it, and I have to keep cracking down on him to pull away from it. His life right now is just Ark. He plays it and he's on Discord chatting with people on his server or buying/selling/trading creatures gear and material.

I'm trying to be tactful with how hard I push him away from it, but I absolutely hate it and if any of you have kids that want to play it, don't let them start.

Fuck this game. It has no storyline, it has no achievements. It's just chore after chore after chore. It's a mobile game built out into a PC platform. This format of game is just heroin.

I'm playing Halo. Man, did I miss playing it too. I usually only get online with a buddy, a lot more fun when you have a teammate you trust alongside. Not sure when some new maps will come out but hopefully soon, not a fan of these maps compared to the original game but still so much fun to play.
Also, I need to read up on a couple things that seemed to change. When you crouch and aren't moving it seems opponents can still detect my radar on the map...I guess that isn't a thing anymore. It seems I am at a disadvantage bc I don't play often bc guys are loaded up with a ton of armor but overall for only being a level 8 I am having pretty good success.
