He will never be an "elite qb", but I love him!

If this game doesn't give him the confidence / swag that he needs to be an "elite qb" than nothing will. Eli had to talk himself in believing that he is an elite qb, and it worked. Alex doesn't necessarily have to talk himself to believing that, but this game in itself should trigger that confidence - belief!

I don't care if he's ever an elite QB and he may not ever live up to the #1 pick, but I'll respect the guy forever. How many of us can honestly say we would have come back to the Niners this year if we were him?

He earned his million dollar bonus today, with that clutch performance at the end...

Man Vernon Davis was worth the extremely high draft pick we spent (no invested) on him.

Say what you will about him and a lot of it's true but that's an all time clutch performance for a QB.

Not just once but twice you come up huge to get your team the win.

As Bingo said he'll likely never be elite but I don't think anyone like him or hate him can't be happy for him to have this moment. With all the fan hate, media hate, and all the butt of the jokes he's been I'm thrilled as a fan that we won but we I'm thrilled for Alex Smith himself.

he WASN'T jittery and he played well overall, obviously stayed poised THRU the 4th quarter.

will have to agree he won't be an elite passing QB, but boy aren't we glad he's playing to this level, however you define it?

Just for the record: who had worse hands as a receiver today? Crabtree or Alex Smith?

:)

too bad Gore didn't complete that pass to Alex, but still something defenses have to be aware of. coupled with his "dash" to the end zone, he's more than a passing threat. haaa

Is Alex Smith going to be our Terry Bradshaw?? Pretty unimpressive and average in the regular season... and then a lights out 299 yards 3 TD, 1 rushing TD performance every playoff game??

*edit*
Because if I remember correctly, Bradshaw's regular season stats suck... but they were his post-season records that Joe Montana had to beat while Montana was setting all of his own post-season passing records in yards, TDs, etc.

Alex played not only the best game of his career but one of the better games all season from any QB. He came through when he needed to and made big plays to keep his team in the game. To me that is more impressive than throwing for 500 yards and 5 tds.

Not only that but he did it in the biggest game of his career, super impressive. Freaking resign him.

I've been a big Alex doubter.

He may never be 'elite' but he certainly came to play today and got it done. He's a player.

That was some performance.
