It is an awfully slippery slope there man.

This is a situation where the team is incentivized to downplay the mental health issue of the player.

It is almost like when the r*pe victim gets put on trial by the defendant’s attorneys.

The protocol really should be for the team doctors to stay out of it. Let the player seek help where he feels comfortable getting it.
The post and the comparison to the r*pe victim implies the Sixers are responsible for whatever mental health condition Simmons may have. That makes little sense.

If Simmons is making this up to get paid, he is horrible person.

However, there is also a pretty solid chance that he has legit mental health issues AND furthermore that his issues have been at least partially caused by the way the 6ers have treated him.

So yeah, set up some protocols to ensure players can’t abuse this. But the protocols can’t involve team doctors. Has to be independent analysis.
If it’s truly a mental health issue that is a result of brain chemistry and not what the Sixers have done. If a boy likes a girl and she doesn’t feel the same way, is she partially responsible when he commits suicide? I would say absolutely not. She had no role in that person’s instability.

They very well may be. At least partially.

His relationship with the organization was fine until the coach and best player threw him all the way under the bus publicly. Then nobody had his back.

And if he was struggling with issues at that time (which would explain his terrible playoff performance), then the way he was treated has to feel like the ultimate betrayal to him.

Again, you all are assuming that there is nothing wrong with Ben.

Someone who believes in his upside and a fresh start.

But again, Simmons’ trade value is not something he should care about at all.

If he wants to get traded, he should care about his trade value.

I have read everything possible about the Simmons saga at this point. You have a very twisted view of things.

Bottom line is that this team enabled this fake superstar for years. They should have pushed much harder, much earlier, to get him to improve offensively. They treated him like a superstar, coddled him, and ignored his poor work habits, all of which was the real mistake they made.

For anyone to claim they didn't have his back is laughable. Only after he came up extremely small in the playoffs did some of the cracks begin to show. Until then, they defended everything he did! And so did the fans!

Now, do I think Simmons is a mentally weak guy who was crushed when people employed the hack a Shaq on him and humiliated him on national TV in the playoffs? Yes, I do. He was a broken man after that. But again, that wasn't the team's fault. The team should have never let it get to that point. They should have made him work on his game or ride pine.

Because he doesn’t have a mental health issue. He found a loophole

But let’s go with it…the people responsible are the people who pumped sunshine up his ass and made him uncoachable. Is it healthy to be declared the best basketball player the continent of Australia has ever seen at 15 years old? Is it healthy to have a documentary exploring your greatness at 16 years old? If Ben is fucked up the issues don’t stem from the Sixers but instead from these things.

Right.

But in this situation, the 6ers want him to use their doctor.

I think he should need to show proof for sure. Just he can’t be required to use team doctors.

Oh yeah, of course. As I said, no issue with using his own docs. When I say team docs, I'm talking more about keeping the team up to speed that he's actually seeing a doctor.

Whether that means his docs keeping the Sixers docs up to date or just him getting communication from his doc to the GM, owner, whoever, that he is actually under their care doesn't matter. Just so it's not him expecting them to take him at his word.

Maybe it's the opponents fault for being big ol' meanyheads and making him shoot free throws? lol

Of course not.

And saying the 6ers caused it wasn’t the right thing to say.

What happened would be more like if the boy had mental health issues, the girl dumped him because he was acting erratic and then made a series of social media posts making fun of him to all their friends.

If he committed suicide would she not have some level of culpability? Not saying it is her fault, but obviously made the situation a lot worse.

That would be more parallel to what happened in Philly if Ben had legit issues.

So let me get this straight.

You KNOW, for absolute certain that a person you have never met before couldn’t possible have mental health issues?

Cmon man.

Yes I do. Is it with 100% certainty? Nope. But I’m gambling man and I’m good with these odds.
A. Ben Simmons no longer wants to play another game in a Sixers uniform
B. The 6ers place his 8 million dollars in escrow
C. Ben Simmons wants his money but still doesn’t want to participate
D. Ben Simmons and his agency discover the only way he can stay away and still get his money is if he has a mental health issue
E. Ben Simmons through his people has leaked 5/6 different varying reasons for why he is disgruntled and wants out. Never among them was any discussion of a mental health issue.
F. At no time in human history have we culturally been as understanding of mental health. There was little holding Simmons back from expressing this reason in the summer.

All of these things acting in conjunction with each other = Ben Simmons is full of shit. I know that this circumstance is likely.

I'm not going to claim I know what's going on in his head. But it certainly doesn't look great

Well sure. Doesn’t look good for either side.

But, if he had a legit issue, it most likely would have played out exactly the same way.

Poor performance leads to public scrutiny, which leads to Ben wanting a fresh start somewhere else and not wanting to be around Philly organization. And why would he go public with a mental health issue during the off season? Most people would try to deal with it privately.

I get the frustration with Simmons as a fan, but you all have to entertain the possibility that he is actually sick and give him time and space. All the public scrutiny does nothing but hurt the team you all root for.

Honestly, I want him to just stay home if he is going to be marginally attached to the team. I do think it is possible that he has actual mental health issues. But I think it is more likely that he's just gaming the system.

If the Sixers continue to play well without Simmons, it will be interesting to see how Simmons responds. Will he be content to just play X-Box all season?

I think he is a PC guy.
