Yeah, I am not loving that either.

What does Schroeder, Kuzma and THT bring the Wizards?

38- 42 wins?

No thanks.

For the Wizards, there would be some legitimate positives. They would get out from under a supermax contract, ultimately trading the John Wall supermax for the Westbrook supermax and then turning that into three impact players. That isn't easy to do, if you consider where they started with Wall coming back from surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles.

The Wizards would get deeper, they would land another forward and a possible starter in Kuzma, a young bench scorer in Horton-Tucker and in Schroder an excellent defensive guard who can also score. Put Schroder at the top with Daniel Gafford on the backend and you could have yourself a really good defense.

The negatives may lie in the simple fact the Wizards would be going from two stars to one. That generally isn't the formula for contention in today's NBA. Often it is necessary to have strength in numbers, the most stars possible.

Trading Westbrook for the three aforementioned Lakers players may make the Wizards a deeper team. But they would probably in a sense be back to square one, looking for another star or two to put alongside Beal after missing that element for years as Wall recovered from injuries. It could be smarter to instead add pieces around Beal and Westbrook, possibly even a third star.

I don’t want 3 impact players.

That is stupid. And this is what the Wizards have always done.

They build rosters that max out as like a 6 seed if they hit their ceiling.

I am fine with giving Russ and Beal another chance. They played a lot better down the stretch.

But if you are going to trade Russ, then trade Beal too for future assets and try to bottom out.

What they have now is a permanent state of mediocrity.

Hey, personally I don't see it happening. But stranger things have happened before.

My guess is that the Wizards would be looking to rebuild at that point and would just be looking to get out from under Westbrook's contract. I would expect that they'd look to move Beal (who I would prefer the Lakers get, but they don't have the assets) as well. They'd probably keep THT, maybe keep Kuzma for a season to see if he can improve his consistency being out of Lebron's shadow. Maybe keep Schroder for a season for a veteran presence and then move him?

I don't know all that much about the Wizards or what they're looking to do.

Anyone think the new ncaa rule allowing players to make money off their likeness might keep some guys in college longer? Will be interesting to see. I see a huge possibility that money can be filtered through all kinds of places, I see this potentially getting ugly.

it will hopefully keep guys who shouldn’t be leaving early from doing so.

it will make every summer feel like the NBA offseason with all the transfers

I think the wizards do this in a quick second if beal tells them he wants out

Did you see the info coming out of Saban’s press conference yesterday on his QB that hasn’t even played a down yet? Dude has already amassed contracts totaling in the 7 figure range! That’s crazy and obviously the exception to the rule but I can see what you’re saying. For guys who are the fringe and would benefit from an extra year to work on game but can’t afford to give up lost potential revenue, this could bridge that gap so that when they do come to the league they have more polish and can increase the chances of success when they actually start their rookie year. Could be a weird sort of benefit that comes out of this with rookies being better attuned to step in the league and make immediate impact like what we see in football.
Saban's comment just reminded us that the new rule means the usual megateams will just get even more mega. Signing with Alabama or OSU or Clemson used to be about exposure and titles. Now it's that plus a LOT more income. Good luck getting that same payday as the incoming QB at Arizona State or Illinois.

Lots of comment like this on the Heat/Lakers finals thread after the series

Don't know what the debate is with Giannis and AD, but give me AD over Giannis currently. It's close, but Giannis being a complete liability as a jump shooter, complete with AD being better defensively, and more complete than Giannis on offense gives it to AD imo

Don't see anything in that comment that wasn't true at the time. Giannis has worked on the things that cost him the last couple of seasons. He's extended his range and learned to use angles so he's not as easy to "wall off" like the Heat did to him.

pretty sure last season after the finals, we had several people who said that. It was a heated debate for at least a few days

I think maybe Giannis was downplayed last year after he got humiliated by the Heat in the 2nd round, whereas AD was a big part of winning a Championship.

This year Giannis was absolutely dominant in getting the Bucks a title whereas AD was injured most of the regular season an playoffs.

When both 100% healthy I think it's a lot closer than most think but I also believe Giannis is better overall.

I agree that Giannis was downplayed after the Heat series. I think AD is more talented but if i'm starting a team, I'm going with Giannis over AD every time. As I said last year, I don't know how good AD is as a 1 in terms of team success. The Lakers is a great fit because he is the 2nd option. All the pressure is on James while AD can just play his game.

Absolutely I agree with that

I'm interested to see what AD does when Lebron is gone. Will he step up and be the #1? Or will the Lakers have to try to sign a #1?

@tlance and myself were two of the few on team Giannis.

I think the general tendency is to overreact to what we just saw.

Jimmy Butler isn’t a top 10 player, but he certainly played like one in the bubble.

The reality is that it is close between AD and Giannis. Neither is perfect, both are good enough to lead a championship caliber team with the right pieces around them. Giannis is probably a bit better, but not by as much as people will say this summer.

It really needs to be the right pieces. AD never had that in NO.

which is why history is repeating itself with Zion.

baffled at the lack of shooting they’ve put around him so far.
