I could see Phoenix top 3 regular season

Possible, but it wouldn't be because they were the 3rd best team in the West, imo. It would be because of Kawhi load management and/or injuries to one or more of the other teams. Or maybe if Lebron and AD "load manage".

Yeah, I've always been on the fence about paying players. On the one hand, if a kid who is a computer whiz in on an academic scholarship at a school and Microsoft wants to pay him a shit ton of money while he's going to school because of his talent with computers, no one would bat an eye.

But if an athlete wants to make money off of his athletic talent, that's an issue. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

On the other hand, when you consider how much crap has gone on while it was illegal, I can't even imagine what it may be like now. Part of the reason it was illegal was to prevent "steering" players to certain schools...not sure how they prevent that now? If I'm a bigwig for some company...what's to stop me from telling a kid he has to go to USC if he wants me paying him for his NIL?
Absolutely nothing and I bet it’s already happening. People like Phil Knight at Oregon can pay whatever they want now.

And that's where I think it could get out of hand.

USC has arguably the top film school in the country, if not the world and is located next door to Hollywood. They are already talking about how they can use the film school to help players promote their NIL. That's a potentially huge advantage.

I hope that I'm just being "old man yelling at clouds" and it'll all be okay. But I can see where it could het out of hand.

I can see where it would eliminate the "$100 handshake" though. If everything is laid out as far as what a kid might get, that $100 bucks, or bag of money from a booster, won't be nearly as impressive to kids.

I’m not looking to pick on anybody so I’m not naming names but this may actually even the playing field among those in that elite top 25 level program category. Some in that group have been better at masking and hiding the $100 handshakes. Some have been more likely to cross that ethical line and take advantage of the way the NCAA model counts on schools to police themselves. This may serve to even the playing field among that group in this regard because now it’s legal and standardized.
You could name names if you want. I'm sure my school (OSU) has more of those handshakes but that's because there is just a lot more alumni from there. The other schools have these handshakes.....but there are less alumni, so I'm not sure this will change all that much.

But OSU is a school that at least self reports transgressions. OSU is one of the better schools for compliance. They always self report even over innocuous shit like a volleyball player inadvertently had a meal paid for because her roommates parents took her out to dinner with other students and paid the check of poor college students.

Only sharing what I read on multiple sources today but the Lakers and Wizards seem to be in talks for a Westbrook trade:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Lonzo Ball, Kyle Lowry, Mike Conley, those are the names I want to see in Lakers trade talks.

Russell Westbrook is arguably my favorite player to watch play for someone else. The key part of that statement being...someone else.

Well shit, if it happens, hopefully Lebron can chill him out a little bit and teach him to play smarter.

I genuinely don't know how to feel about this.

In one way I don't see this happening because I don't think the Lakers have enough to offer the Wizards, but then again I didn't think the Lakers would be able to pull off the AD deal either so what the hell do I know.

Another way, I'd rather have Lowry or CP3. I said earlier I could see Paul opting out of his player option to sign with the Lakers on a really cheap deal, but that is only if he really doesn't give a shit about the money and wants to win a title ASAP, which I believe if he were to join the Lakers would give him the best shot.

But ultimately, if, and thats a very big if, the Lakers do manage to get Westbrook, I could actually see that working. The Lakers suffered on offense far too many times last season and Westbrook could spark that.

Both Lebron and Westbrook have very high basketball IQs so I could see them figuring out a way to get things flowing. Especially if they have a full offseason to prepare.

Let the CP3 to the Lakers rumors begin! Wilbon mentioned it on PTI today.

I think their main focus this offseason will be trying to get a new point guard. Shroeder aint coming back.

Be interesting to see who they get in the end.

Lowry, CP3 and Westbrook would all be ideal in my opinion but a lot would have to happen to get that to work.

Pretty sure Wilbon said CP3 has an opt-out clause for next season. He's set to make 44.2m. Which is insane. No wonder I can't afford a really good seat at a game. Obviously if he wants to team up with his banana boat buddy he's gonna have to take a lot less.

And Cowherd mentioned it on his show and I think it was mentioned on Dan Patrick too.

It would depend on CP3. If he's good with the money he's made in his career and wants to try to get a ring, then maybe he decides to go to the Lakers or another contender. If he wants that last payday...he'll stay put.

Yep. If he genuinely wants a great shot at the title, the Lakers would be a good place to go, but he'd have to take a lot less.

If he's in for the money, he should just stay in Phoenix

Honestly, I think they should try to get him no matter what else they do. Never thought I'd say that about 'Melo. But I loved how he played in Portland.

Melo was finally able to accept his new role in Portland. That role would fit perfectly for him in LA too

Yeah, I am not loving that either.

What does Schroeder, Kuzma and THT bring the Wizards?

38- 42 wins?

No thanks.
