He will either resign a long deal with Denver, or he will sign the biggest money he can on a bad team.

I agree, I think he is secure enough in himself and his accomplishments he won’t do that. Now if the money were to be the same it might be different.

Anyone think the new ncaa rule allowing players to make money off their likeness might keep some guys in college longer? Will be interesting to see. I see a huge possibility that money can be filtered through all kinds of places, I see this potentially getting ugly.

Did you see the info coming out of Saban’s press conference yesterday on his QB that hasn’t even played a down yet? Dude has already amassed contracts totaling in the 7 figure range! That’s crazy and obviously the exception to the rule but I can see what you’re saying. For guys who are the fringe and would benefit from an extra year to work on game but can’t afford to give up lost potential revenue, this could bridge that gap so that when they do come to the league they have more polish and can increase the chances of success when they actually start their rookie year. Could be a weird sort of benefit that comes out of this with rookies being better attuned to step in the league and make immediate impact like what we see in football.

Heard an interesting take on this today.

When you factor in a healthy Lakers, Clippers and Warriors (not to mention Denver and Utah) the Suns are probably looking at a #4-6 seed next year.

So basically, it depends on what's important to him. If, now that he's experienced the finals, he now wants to win a title, he'll opt out and sign with a contender.

If he's happy with where he is and what he's accomplished, then he re-signs with Phoenix for a couple of seasons to close out his career.

I can envision 5 years from now part of an official visit being the staff going over, “We have already lined up X,Y, and Z in terms of NIL deals for you. These deals are available to you if you decide to go here. Is Such and Such school able to provide you with the same access to deals that we are?” This starts out with a reasonable principle. Athletes should have the right to market their image and likeness and be able to profit from it like every other American is. But it’s going to morph into another layer of the big boys in college Athletics dominating through boosters. It’s just legal now.

I’m not looking to pick on anybody so I’m not naming names but this may actually even the playing field among those in that elite top 25 level program category. Some in that group have been better at masking and hiding the $100 handshakes. Some have been more likely to cross that ethical line and take advantage of the way the NCAA model counts on schools to police themselves. This may serve to even the playing field among that group in this regard because now it’s legal and standardized.

Yeah, I've always been on the fence about paying players. On the one hand, if a kid who is a computer whiz in on an academic scholarship at a school and Microsoft wants to pay him a shit ton of money while he's going to school because of his talent with computers, no one would bat an eye.

But if an athlete wants to make money off of his athletic talent, that's an issue. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

On the other hand, when you consider how much crap has gone on while it was illegal, I can't even imagine what it may be like now. Part of the reason it was illegal was to prevent "steering" players to certain schools...not sure how they prevent that now? If I'm a bigwig for some company...what's to stop me from telling a kid he has to go to USC if he wants me paying him for his NIL?
