Still doing Valheim, still looking for the fifth boss. Fully upgraded gear, near genocide on Furling villages but, no boss yet.

Just finished up Hyper Light Drifter. It's like 16bit Zelda on a bad acid trip. Part of the game itself is figuring everything out without tutorials, dialogue, or story explanations. A lot of hidden things to find. Maybe the worst soccer minigame I've ever played but overall it feels like a top tier SNES title.

Valheim is probably my favorite game of 2021. It also took me forever to find the final boss but I did.

Yea, taking forever. Main base in the Meadowlands and built a Mountain retreat with great view of the Plains and Dark Forest while I am looking.

Also, started a new game from scratch and wife is playing with me.

To find the location of that boss, you have to look for stonehenge-like monolith formations. It took me days of sailing around to find one but I spotted it off the coast and sure enough, it was the right thing. Try to sail and look for it as much as possible without getting off and fighting those deathsquitos and stuff.

The boss location itself is also very memorable if you see it--a giant hand with each finger rising up like a giant column into the air.

I'm playing Resident Evil 2 (2019) and 13 Sentinels.

13 Sentinels is neat. It's like Gundam Stranger Things. Although maybe I just described all anime. It's pretty much just a story game but there is some gameplay that's mostly there to compliment the story.

Resident Evil 2 is just a good game. I like how creative they've been with the franchise but at some point you just need a good zombie game.

Just got Outer Worlds (on sale on Steam for $19).

I plan on really ripping into it this weekend.
My brother-in-law says its one of the best games he has ever played. It looks like its somewhere halfway between Bethesda and Bioware so I cant tell if Id really like it or just find it lacking in special qualities.

So far, it seems like a cross between Fallout and Badlands.

It is produced by Obsidian who made FO3:New Vegas.

Yeah, I figured it was like Fallout but as much as I game Ive never really seen an interest in the series. Played a bit of FO3 and that was enough for me.

I love the FO series. We will see if it translates to more serious futuristic storyline, though.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Badlands, so I hope the similarities I see so far are just cosmetic.

I guess to beat the deadhorse on Ghost of Tsushima but Ive finally gotten close to the Platinum and finally putting the game down. At least until Legends mode or Directors Cut or whatever. Without really getting into spoilers I'd say Act 1 is an 8/10, Act 2 is a 10/10, and Act 3 is an 8/10. Act 1 lacks many of the interesting side missions and characters and doesnt have the grappling hook which leads to some of the best side content. The combat in the game basically ends once you unlock all of the stances, get the triple assassination, and max out the Sakai Clan armor or the Ghost Armor. This is where Act 3 struggles a bit. For me it was mostly about finishing up the story beats and the exploration. The design of making Jin OP in Act 3 seems very intentional but Im not sure it works as well as it should.

I do like many of the aspects of the story but one of the fundamental issues is that Jin and Yuna basically have no chemistry together and they're the main characters. Jin sees Taka for maybe a couple of scenes so his death doesnt have nearly the weight that many other video game deaths do. Jin also barely sees Khan throughout the game which is just bizarre and probably also leads to people thinking the story is a bit lackluster. A lot of the story beats are actually quite good, though. The Warrior Monk, The Archer Sensei, The Old Senile Woman, The Honorable Uncle, The Angry Woman who lost her family...all interesting. The farmer clan that Jin has to unite to beat back the mongols? Great. The other stuff? Eh...it could have been a lot better.
I do think I'll enjoy Legends mode but I'll probably need to wait for that to come out on PC for my friends to jump in. I suspect that Legends as a separate mode and/or the whole game will be on PC at some point in the next year or so.

Playing The Last of Us.

When its immersive, its one of the best games ever made. Not even sure how or why a TV would try to duplicate it because the TV format is less immersive. The problem is that sometimes its limits as a video game show up and it goes from being a survival in the apocalypse to Shaun of the Dead as enemies ignore AI partners as dialogue completely mismatches what is going on screen. There will also be large hotels and bookstores of wasted space as the first time I fire a shot all 10 enemies lineup in the doorway just to get blasted by a shotgun over and over again and they form a giant pile. Or important dialogue will be said in the other room and Im busy picking up crafting items and then when I enter the room Bill says to go check out the other room for supplies. When the game is tight and works, its 10/10. When it doesnt then its much less. Maybe thats just me.

The crafting system is really cool but I seriously question the idea that Joel has weapon sway to start the game. He is a guy from Texas who has been in the apocalypse for 20 years on both sides of tough situations and he fires like the first time I went to range. I also question the idea of creating a new universe, then having 3 characters relate to Joel in a meaningful way before Ellie even enters the picture and then try and convince the player base that Joel isnt the main character.
