Techinically they have $15M in cap but some salaries have not been updated, so it should be a little over $5M. They will have to open up some cap space regardless to sign the full $7-8M rookies I am assuming, which shouldn’t be a problem honestly. I expect them to clear cap space regardless to sign more depth at the least.

They haven't even bothered restructuring anything to my knowledge. I appreciate they need the long term money though so I'm not opposed to them being frugal

They have definitely been brilliant when it comes to how to manipulate the cap and cap carry over. Pretty incredible they have the most money going out as of now for 2021 but only $1 mil in dead cap money.

Just to be clear, only the top 51 contracts count against the cap. So believe you are correct, they have the $5.8M or whatever and rookie contracts are not included in thag top 41. Could be wrong. You think it wouldn’t be thag difficult shedding or restructuring to create $5-7M to possibly bring in some more depth + a starting caliber DE

I wouldn't mind signing Vernon to a vet minimum deal. assuming they felt they'd get him for last month and playoffs if we make it.

Tough call. Will probably happen in the NCAA to somebody.

Still don’t think teams should be allowed to advance after losing though

Imagine the eventual champ having a 5-1 tournament record?

No thanks.

Since they made the tourney, it's moot anyway. Cuse on to the sweet 16 and Houston...

Yeah I mean if that is possible...sure. I’m thinking they have restructures in place if they do want to target a couple guys or trade for a guy. Still got $5M and change to spend without any major cuts/restructures. Very impressive

and cap expected to go way up next year then explode in 2023.....should really help on potential extensions for Ward and Baker. Or Chubb, but still not so sure they'll pay top dollar to a RB.

That would be a lot of dead cap lol. Now if he was convicted of a crime...I’m sure there is a loophole out of that contract

If memory serves, the Patriots were able to get out of at least part of the Aaron Hernandez contract.

I think that at the least, they'd be able to void whatever's left of his deal. Not sure how the guaranteed money would work though.

Obviously, a fake report but wonder if they've considered it. Guessing everything could be considered but at this point might as well let it play out and see what, if anything happens as far as if the league does anything to him. Certainly no reason to sell low if they plan to deal him.

Looks like they should have just traded him last month.

The more I think about it, if the Texans knew this information before and are just leaking it now...they are really dumb. Why not trade him then leak it? Of course they get out of the contract but they get no return on their most valuable asset. Not saying they did leak it or anything like that but this organization might be that dumb.

But voiding it in general, whether they did leak it, it’s still a loss.

I mean this organization has been a big enough disaster. No need to make up things to rip them.

The only reason that I can think of that they would leak it is to cause the market for him to dry up and essentially have him stay because he has no other options.

Anything possible, but don't see how diminishing his value can help. If they want him to stay then just don't deal him.
