I hope he didn't let the door hit him in the butt on the way out. I hope the team can fix the situation, as they are a good franchise that has had a lot of foreign-born players that have worked out very well.
As to using interpreters, if I were in the position of a foreign born player here that was asked a question about a play on the field, I would rather make a comment to an interpreter and have them translate it appropriately, as opposed to possibly making a poor choice of words myself.

Sure, but at least Japanese player complaint is a legitimate gripe that every person that has covered the Mariners has had.

My mistake, it's Mather, not Mathers as I added the "S" at the end of the guy's name. Not a big deal but either way, I am not sad to see that egotistical AH leave the organization. I can't believe how much uproar he caused with that interview. I agree with someone's post that he should have been shit canned immediately instead of allowing him to resign, even if his resignation was the organiztion's way of forching him out the door. I truly hope Mather's attitude/thought processes are not indications of the ownership's attitude in general.

His comments remind me of something that Calvin Griffith (late owner of the Twins) said in an appearance at the Waseca, Mn Lions Club banquet in the late 70s. He was joking about the salaries he was able to pay the players and how they played for "slave" wages. Rod Carew took great offense to those comments and demanded a trade immediately. The Twins did not get value for him and that, along with Griffith's statements, started the decline of the team. Hopefully, the Mariners as a franchise, will be able to recover quickly from this knucklehead's statements.
Best news to come from this is that Mr. Mather is out, taking his attitude with him.

I can see that argument but the example you gave was at the players. Mather unintentionally (I think at least) threw a torch on the other owners as well as shots at players in the organization.

Forgot, umpires as well.

June Cleaver, played by Barbara Billingsly.

She also played the passenger who "spoke jive" in Airplane!

And Eddie Haskell, despite persistent rumors, was not Alice Cooper.

Eddie was a cop in real life I believe.

Airplane was a classic and she made that small part.
