The Chiefs had a 3rd and 8 at the start of the game and Hardman was behind Tampa's defense. Mahomes misses by 5 yards. Thats a play they hit all year and had nothing to do with the Bucs. A few plays after the goal line stop there is a 3rd and 8 and Kelce is open and drops a wide open pass that should've gotten 16+yds. Thats a play they hit all year and had nothing to do with the Bucs. There were some plays early where their formation was weird and Mahomes missed Hardman and that doesn't show up on the highlights but they were in disarray. Darrell Williams dropped a TD at the end that hit him in the helmet. There are a few more that happened that aren't showing up in the highlights.

The Super Bowl was about 4 or 5 things. The Chiefs imploded with penalties. The Bucs D demolished the Chiefs offense. The Chiefs offense choked. Fournette and Gronk were pretty good.

There was definitely a lot wrong with how the Chiefs prepared for this game.

Not surprising since Reid had a lot on his mind after his son was involved in an accident and their OL was without 3 of 5 OL.

Its not too surprising but with all of the mistakes the Chiefs made they could've lost to the Jets or the Lions. Just bad football. No chance to beat the Bucs playing like that.

According to the stats CBS put up at the beginning, Tampa Bay’s defense was ranked 6th, and KC’s was 16th. Even though KC had the 1st ranked offense, this game goes to show that it truly is defenses that win championships. Tampa’s defense looked Top 10 and played like it.

Yeah... the Packers would’ve smoked the Chiefs.
I think mahomes out guns rodgers in a high scoring game. Tampa bays defensive line is simply owning the chiefs injured oline, the packers dline isnt close to this good.

The Chiefs just got beat up.. out-physicaled if that was a word. I know they were shorthanded in the trenches, but they just got punched in the mouth repeatedly on both sides of the ball and had no answers. Mahomes was running for his life all night and that clearly got to him mentally at some point, but I can't put too much blame on him. That was just a good old-fashioned ass-whoopin.

The scary part is Mahomes hasn't even sniffed his prime but he's already been to 2 and won a SB.

Its more than just Tampa's dline, though. A big part of why the Chiefs have been able to win games all year with a bottom 5 oline (forget whatever PFF tells you) is that the Chiefs have had a big bag of trick to exploit the other teams linebackers. Most teams don't have really good linebackers. Tampa Bay is an exception and the Chiefs didn't really have any tricks up their sleeve.

The Chiefs had a typical second year surprise. They won last year, had a great regular season and actually stumbled against the Browns but recovered against the Bills. The went to Tampa expecting everything to fall in place. That's what has historically happened to teams when they go back to the Super Bowl two years in a row. I'll make a prediction right now that the Chiefs will not be in the Suoer Bowl in 2022.

Mahomes biggest weakness was exposed yesterday. When he can't get outside, he runs backwards and literally just throws the ball as far as he can. A couple of times it landed harmlessly and most of the time out of bounds. @Clatin pick a few of the plays that went bad that have not done so in the past. The other thing is that the bullshit crazy jump up, spin around, and do the the two step shuffle passes were nowhere to be found. That and Mahomes was throwing a ton off his back foot.

Speed Kills. The Bucs DL was just too fast for the Chiefs OL and Mahomes was on his bike all day. The worst of it came in the fourth quarter when both the Kansas City OL and DL were just plain gassed. That Monster DL that KC uses to stop the run couldn't do a thing and the lighter guys had run a few miles trying to get to Brady and their legs were soft.

The Bucs also had a leader that they were ready to die for. Brady was like George Patton in WWII. All he had to do was look at soomeone and they were ready to go the distance. Bucs won't be back next year either. They blew their load yesterday.

Solid point. But i counter with the fact that all 3 very good linebackers could play free roam the whole game because tbs flat 4 simply dominated the los. I dont think mahomes even had THATbad of a game, he was simply staring down multiple defenders 1 second after snap the whole game.

I think the Chiefs overachieved because of Mahomes and Spagnuolo this year. At the start of the season, I thought the Chiefs were missing at least 2 or 3 defensive starters from being a solid unit. They did play well all year because of the secondary and blitzes but they aren't actually a crazy talented defensive unit. They didn't actually trust their defensive skills in the Super Bowl and the penalties came out. If these types of penalties would've happened during the regular season then they would've gone 7-9 or something like that.

Mahomes also had his hero ball save him against the Bucs, Saints and a few other teams earlier this season. The problem with hero ball is that you need someone to catch the football, too, and the Chiefs just aren't a good 'contested catch' type of team. They are a tempo and speed team. The Chiefs only had one deep pass against the Bills all game. They had the Bills beat right from the start with their system. That system didn't line up with Tampa Bay at all.

I mentioned in another post about the 'bullshit' plays but thats part of the system and that system requires mismatches. Chiefs didn't have any mismatches up front. Their mismatches were deep in the secondary and that led to hero ball, drops, miscommunication and more.

Yeah, although I think that the Chiefs receivers also played poorly and mentally the Chiefs were abysmal. Pretty much 15 points worth of penalties on top of some bad drops. Without those two factors, I think the Bucs still win but we would've at least had a good game.
agree.....and Mahomes looked mortal without receivers running free all over field and no time to throw.

I still think Mahomes is great, but does seem like he relies on hitting wide open receivers. Reid and his weapons do not get the credit they deserve when he plays well.
