Jerod Mayo the latest supposedly interviewing. Interesting name. Not sure he is ready to be a head coach but would be interesting as a defensive coordinator.

If you are thinking the guy is a bad hire because you dont think he will be a good HC. Well that is one argument & so be it.
but if you dont like the hire because he is a defensive HC. Let me share with you my thoughts.
If I could magically have a good HC no matter what. I would rather that person be a Defensive HC not an offensive guy. My reasonings. A defensive HC & a DC usually work together. A offensive HC & a OC it is usually one or the other in charge THE HC most times want to do the play calling, where as a Defensive HC can concentrate on you know. Being the Head coach. Also if you need to make changes to an offense. With a Offensive HC that usually means a complete overhaul of all coaching since you will be changing out the HC to make that fix.
Defensive HC you can change out any coordinator without blowing up the staff. Ultimately if you could find a quality ST coach to be a HC would be best, but since most of these HCs come from being a big name in offense or defense. The ST coach is a rare HC.
Jets get a defensive minded HC, they just have to get their QB whisperer at OC &/or QB coach.
Jets get an offensive HC he has to be right about everything. as he will override OCs & QB coaches.

So if you knew (magically) you were getting a good HC in your next hire. I would lean towards a DC, HC than a OC, HC.

My problem with the Jets specifically is you have Darnald, so you want someone who could help develop his career, or you have a young rookie QB, and you want the same. Salah brings in an OC that could do that, and within 2-3 years, that guy is in line for a HC job elsewhere, and now you’re going to be asking your young QB whoever that is, to adjust to a new offensive system under a new OC.

I think the best fit for a defensive minded HC is in a place with a well established QB on a team in need of a defensive boost. Detroit/Atlanta obviously come to mind, but considering their experiences with Patricia and Quinn, I wonder if they would be hesitant

OK, then as you hire a OC, also hire a QB coach with OC/HC potential. When the OC moves on as a HC elsewhere you promote from within. Same system.

Makes sense
Doesn’t it feel like you are trying to make a lotta correct calls, rather than just hit it big on the right offensive minded head coach?

I dunno, I look at the Chargers, I’d be shocked if they go the DC route, they see what they have in Herbert and his development will take priority over everything

No, you worry about getting ONE correct call, that being HC.

If you hire Salah and he's a success you made the right hire. What if you hire an offensive guy because you have a "Young" QB and that coach fails?

You shouldn't worry about who the QB is in making a decision on who the HC will be, you hire who you think will be able to have success on both sides of the ball.

If you hire an offensive coach as the HC, and your defense is great under the DC, that DC leaves and the defense gets a new system.

We will see

it’s become a QB/offensive centric league

you have a successful OC, it’s all but guaranteed you are on borrowed time

DC’s I think are finding HC possibilities increasingly difficult

can't see Pederson being out of work for long. He was almost coach of the year once.

Per Todd Archer.

Casting a wide net for Doug Pederson's successor, the Philadelphia Eagles have requested an interview with an NFC East rival, Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, for their head coach opening, according to a source. Moore, 32, signed a three-year deal at the end of the 2020 season to remain with the Cowboys, pulling his name from the Boise State vacancy. The Cowboys had 513 yards and 37 points in Week 16 win vs. Eagles.

I’ve got to hand it to the eagles. They’re interviewing everyone available it seems. They’re putting in the work. Now let’s just see if they get it right
