Anybody viewing Foles or Kirk as franchise guys would be viewing them in the wrong light. Though both did have damn near perfect timing at critical points in their careers. For Foles it led to a Super Bowl win/SB MVP. For Kirk it led to 140+ million in earnings.
Franchise as in Brady or Rodgers ... no. Franchise as in 200 TD passes and 30,000 yards ... I'd sign up for that. <drumming my fingers waiting for the next QB in Washington to accomplish that>

I know who it isn't .... AJ McCarron or Tyrod Taylor as some suggested.

Cousins has always been the football equivalent of fools gold. It became clear that he was limited in what he could do when he threw into triple coverage against a bad giants team to prevent the redskins from making the playoffs.

He is better than who the WTF have now, but that’s not saying much: a one legged game manager, a journeyman backup, and a rookie who has never thrown an nfl pass.

We'll have to agree to disagree about how good he is. Great? No. Above average ... hell yes. 200 NFL TD passes is an awful lot at not a number most reach. To be clear he is not there yet but will be by mid next year.

Not sure about the O-line, that unit has blasted holes for their running game all year and has provided adequate protection for Kirk. He's the problem there and has been called out for it several times this year. If dude was making a few million dollars that would be different. For the money that he makes, they should be 11-5, 12-4 and serious contenders in the upcoming playoffs, not eliminated from them.

KC is 12th in yards, 3rd in YPA, 7th in TDs, and 8th in rating.

He has made more interceptions this season and those 8 fumbles are egregious...always pissed me off here.

KC is also the 7th most sacked person in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Minnesota is giving up the fifth most yards and 5th most ppg. I am not sure how bad that defense has to be with the sixth best rush offense to have those ranks.

For me, if KC was here, we would be far better in terms of wins.

Now, I do not believe he should be here because of his cap hit for us. Would I take him and his cap hit over AS’ cap hit...hell yes.

Yeah, I just listed the QBs who I thought weren't franchise guys yet still won a Super Bowl in the 2000s. I was surprised there were that many.

2 general ways to win a Super Bowl in the NFL:’

1) Get an elite QB and build around him
2) build around a great defense + running game with a game manager QB

Russell Wilson was a game manager when the Seahawks won their Super Bowl. The window is usually a lot shorter with the game manager types, which is why you don’t see a ton of multiple winners, but it is absolutely doable.

money isnt the issue . he is performing the way he should but the kicking game cost him a few games and the defense is horrendous

i think people conflate greatness with above avg . KC is avg to above avg . he will never be the top qb in the NFL . he will however be in the top 10 -15 virtually every year

his career will put him at about 2-300 td s and around 40,000 yds

i will take that production any time

Multiple SBs is rare regardless: Favre, Rodgers (may change), Brees (may change), Warner, Young, etc. have one.

Brady: 6
Montana, Bradshaw: 4
Aikman: 3
Manning, Manning, Plunkett, Greise, Staubach, Roethlisberger, Elway: 2

Now, an organization would always pick somebody they believe who could win two or more over someone they think could win with great defense and running team. they would want the player who could take an average team to win one or more. I’m just saying no matter how you break it up, it’s rare to have multiple wins.

Wherever you fall on the “love for Cousins” scale, two things are certain:

1) The WFT completely fucked that situation up royally, much to Cousins advantage,

and

2) Cousins may win less than Alex Smith does, but he also has two usable legs, is a few years younger than Alex Smith, hasnt suffered nearly any injuries that I’m aware of, can throw a pretty ball down field, and has accumulated some nice stats.

If Russel Wilson was a game manager during his super bowl win, then what was Trent Dilfer when the Ravens won?

Not even close to comparable.

Wilson showed he had a knack for escapability and creative playmaking in his first year as a starter.

In the non KC department. With Kubiak in Minnesota the past couple of years they have built a line with zone run blocking in mind. This means a little smaller, quicker and more athletic lineman who can run and block.

Anyone remember Shanahan being here and all the complaining about terrible OLineman because of all the sacks given up? Same thing in Minnesota ... excellent run blockers, not so much as pass blockers.

Zimmer is a bit like old George Allen. He would love to control the game with D and the run game. Sadly the D and the kicker have been bad. I remember one game where the Vikes came back three times only to watch the D give it up again.

True far as RW goes, but the year they won the SB was on the strength of their defense n a running game. RW was solid though no doubt.

Far as Dilfer goes. He made a bare minimum of plays that year, but I'd opine his biggest job was not losing games with turnovers .

if we had KC on this team we would be in the playoffs at 10-6

So from a possible 7-9 or 6-10 to 10-6 eh. So the 4 seed with likelly 1 post season game at home. Do the Skins make it out of the first rd?

There are levels of game manager status. Dilfer being the extreme.

Wilson threw for 3,300 yards and 26 TDs the year they won the Super Bowl. Solid numbers to be sure, but nothing special in the modern era and a far cry from his average season today.

Interesting as the Skins were likely a missed Duckfoot XP away from taking the Hawks to OT with DH @ QB. While the Rams pretty much straight ass padded the Skins. As for the Bucs. If your defense can get close to Brady. Your team should have a decent chance at a victory.

Yeah, I'm not so sure the Skins would be much better off KC as QB now. The Skins defense is much better now than when KC was first here, but the offense though not so much.

I should amend this ^^^^^^^^ in Kirk's last season with the Skins that offense was pretty shitty.
