When RR was hired consensus on the board and redskins fandom was let RR rebuild the team and change the culture . It was the year to see what the young guys “ have “ and to “ find out about Haskins “ .

so what type of team did you all think we had ? A 10 win perennial playoff contending team ? A 500 team ? Something worse ( I had us at 3 wins )

now after one lousy game ( the only guy in the nfl that can never ever have a bad game ) we hear calls for benching Haskins and anointing Allen as the franchise qb ! Amazing let’s at least look competitive is the mantra as we head to 1-5 .
Let’s look at this with a spec of reality . If we are competitive with Allen on our way to a division title with 6-7 wins what have we gained ? You must be saying Allen is a franchise qb for this to be worth it . So who has the nut sack to anoint Allen as the savior ?
Who thinks it’s smart to go with CDC and his bum leg for the next few years . You want to roll the dice with that ?

so am I to take football advice from the crowd that 3 minutes into the games and a few missed passes calls the qb a bum ? What an emotional crock of shit !

getting 6-7 wins is only good if it’s Haskins who gets it done . That means he turned it around because it won’t happen unless he does . Then you can look at drafting at the mid to late teens and getting a guy who can fill a need at maybe TE or Wr or safety .

but if you come out of this season needing a qb then you won’t get a top prospect without gutting 2 drafts at the least . If you stick with Haskins and he busts out and you get 2-4 wins you are in position to getting a top qb prospect without expending multiple picks . RG 3 cost us 3 first round picks and 2 second rounders . It screwed the depth of the team for 1/2 a decade and we are still looking for a qb

so please tell me what is the plan ? Throw away draft. Picks and use Fa to fill needs because that has worked so well for Cerratto and Brucifer the past 20 years ?

this fan base is amazing . We need change , we need change , but screw the time it takes to actually effect change

so on my estimation if you want Allen in there you think he is a franchise qb because CDC is a stop gap . And if that is the case then I will watch it happen with a wary eye.

winning the division with 6-7 wins is fools gold

As much as I like you dad you put a lot of stuff out there that at least doesn't fit me.

I was okay with the RR hiring, not in love with it. I liked the JDR hiring and have said that more than once. Remember he has had 3 winning record years and 7 losing record years. I think if you or anyone wants to know about RR listen to Tomcat. He lives in his backyard and knows him better than we do.

I advocated for at least taking a look at Tua, of course I knew Dan wasn't going to buy into it.

I didn't love the Haskin's draft pick when it happened. I was more excited about Montez Sweat.

You play to win the game, not tank or allow a team to tank so you can draft the next potential great QB. Yes I took political license. I have not said lets start Allen but if this goes two more games I would think seriously about it. I can't say I know a lot about Allen though. I have a hard time believing Lombardi, Belichek, Gibbs or anyone else said "oh screw it we lost, lets just get out of here."

If you want to protect players than why not put some backups in and still try to score. I would prefer that to not trying at all. Sure we know in most cases it isn't likely but you don't quit. Why not just walk off the field then.

I respect your right to explain your opinion/side. Please don't paint with a broad brush. We aren't all the same and we are entitled to our opinion.

Ditto to Sportster answer. Couldn’t have said it better. Haven’t been around for a long time so don’t have any idea about the board discussions the past few years and I’m not going to bother reading old threads to catch up.

I didn’t come back to post on this board to be belittled for an opinion that varies from your own. I’m sure you didn’t mean to come across as condescending but thats how it came across. I’m allowed my opinion. I backed it up with why I felt that way. You feel differently. Fine. Agree to disagree.

If you have a message for a specific poster @them. Don’t accuse the whole board of absurdities like you posted above.

That would be my suggestion.

Now, can we all please just get along and continue supporting the habit we can’t seem to quit...our no name redskins.

I have been here for a long time . I could go back and pull everyone’s thoughts on the hiring and the plan moving forward .

my question is fairly simple . What are we trying to accomplish ?

I never mentioned tanking I laid out scenarios

what’s better for the team Haskins getting 6 wins Or Allen getting them ?

if you feel Allen is the franchise qb then fine ,say it and let’s put him in and build around him

if you don’t think he is the franchise qb then what are we doing ?

I am not sure Haskins is anything . What I am sure about is 3 games isn’t enough.

I considered that also. It was a slippery slope because of Tua's injury history. I didn't say they should have drafted him but instead should have considered it. As I remember they did not go to his workout. It is hard for me to believe that Dan didn't have a hand in that decision.

Who knows whether they win three or six games this year where that will put them in draft position or if it is even needed. Maybe Haskin's takes a turn for the better and we forget all about it.

That is a fair comment. Three games this year is not enough to put him on the bench .... unless you have a much better player. The only real possibility is Allen. As I said before Smith is a great feel good story but I hope that guy never sees the field where he could get hurt again.

I think you sink or swim with Haskins . He most likely could sink but I am not sure Allen will prevent 1-5,

I do not plan on sticking around but I have been reading the board every month or so since I left. I will offer my thoughts even though its early regarding " a plan". With football only related matters, not the general state of the organization and Snyder:

1. Hiring Ron Rivera: This could potential have been a mistake.
It way too early to say it was a mistake or to even think about firing him or saying anything like that. However, the warning signs are there.
First of all, he was not really succesful at Carolina and I have pointed that out. In 9 seasons, he only had 3 winning seasons. That is not good and tells me he is not that great of a coach. I was on board when the hire was made but after seeing the Carolina fanbase reaction and doing some basic research, this potentially could have been a mistake. Of course, he could win the Super Bowl next year. We do not know. His refusal to call timeouts late in the game are head scratching and make no sense.
I am very hesitant to give a HC full control of personel and believe the GM brings in the players. It seldom works out the other way and caused Holmgreen and Shanahan to lose their jobs.
RR wanted to bringyes men instead of talent. I believe locker room culture is important but I would rather go with talent. The Chiefs are a great example. Kelce is a jerk and Hill's off the field behavior is deplorable but they are the Super Bowl champs. RR brought in "culture" guys but NOT the talent. That is a problem as talent trumps culture. Maybe his plan is to do this in year 2 but he has a possible franchise QB he is trying to save and so far, his plan has backfired. RR even admitted that Haskins is has a time limit.

2. The offseason was a disaster:
I said this several times and was run off the board for suggesting this. Dean said that Haskins would get weapons in FA. That never happened period. He has little to no talent around him at all. I get Haromon and Guice losing his mind but you cannot keep a straight face and say Logan Thomas and JD McKissic are weapons. They are cast offs and back ups...not starters.
Regarding the OLine, I said that we should have let Scherrif walk but Skinsdad and others wanted him. I said he was injury prone and his play was slipping. He could not even make it past 1 game. Its his 3rd trip to IR with 3 different injuries. History repeats itself and the team failed to act on that. We are paying him absurd money to stay injured and could have brought in a replacement. We did not do that.
The rest of the OLine is a mess and RR did NOT address it. Haskins is under current pressure and the running lanes are not there. I repeatedly called for OLine help via FA or with additional draft picks, but it did not happen. RR's plan to protect Haskins with mid-round picks and career journeymen makes no sense at all and he has put the team in a difficult position.

3. The fate of Haskins:
Because of the lack of direction RR has taken, we simply do not know what we have in Haskins. Is he not an NFL QB or does he simply not have the talent around him to succeed? We will have to go into 2021 with that same question because we will not be acquiring additional talent. Do we draft a QB with our 1st pick or draft talent to support Haskins? Nobody knows at this time. What we do know is that RR and Smith botched addressing the offense this year and that was the main goal. We had the worst offense in 2019 and it is not really improved.

Bottom line, there isn't much of a plan now because of the poor decisions the FO made in the offseason. We have numerous holes for 2021 such as LT, RG, WR, TE, FS, CB. We do have cap room and should have the draft picks but does anyone really trust RR and Smith after last year's disaster?

Other points:
-We all saw the Sean Davis disaster coming
-Hopefully RR gets healthy and beats cancer
-Do we trade Kerrigan since we are not going anywhere?
-What is the draft approach for 2021? Franchise QB or LT?
-How much do we use in cap room to fix the glaring lack of talent we have?
-Perhaps RR helps instill a better culture but is a transition coach for us?
-The focus on building the defense first and ignoring the offense mostly has put us in a bad spot.

Damn Duke. Fabulous points, well articulated. Great post.

I wasn’t even bothering to follow the FO drama - checked out about 2 years ago. Our dang fierce, young defensive players (esp Young) dragged me back as a reluctant fan of the no name team, as it intrigued.

You’ve shed lots of light on that for me and I’m really impressed with your thoughts. Sorry you feel no interest in posting more consistently. But I get it, I had to take a break from the dysfunction of the team myself, I was so disgusted.

I, for one, would appreciate reading your insights and views. Wish you’d stick around.

Cheers

There are people who left for other reasons. ehb5 and I argued over several players. Sometimes I was right, sometimes he was. I wish he was still here. I wish shark would contribute more. I am glad Cali is back. People like those I just mentioned are missed as all of us together made this the best board on the Hoop.

A winning mentality and actuality on the football field and some damn stability in the FO of this franchise for me.

Hey big guy! Glad to see you sir.

Maybe my 2021 New Years Resolution will be to get thicker skin...LOL

Hopefully the team turns it around and we can all gloat about how we are Kings of the NFC East once again.

Thank you! Nice to be seen. With this team, thick skin is required, lol.
I’d simply be happy with stability, a functional franchise, coach and team this year... a high bar in the past 20 years. Feels like we are building something...but I’ve thought that before. Time will tell fo’ sho

Thanks Sportster-

Was I being too much of a drama queen, probably.

I did get frustrated with the lack of looking at the big picture and felt most posters drank the Rivera koolaid and ignored the head scratching moves at the time. To be clear:

1. Nobody wants a Biden vs Trump 2020 1st debate repeat.
2. We all want to win again ASAP
3. We want our players to be succesfull.
4. We want Snyder out

That being said, our fanbase is shrinking I feel and we should stick together until a new owner saves us. I hope Haskins is the guy, I hope Ron Rivera changes the culture and gets us winning again, I hope Kyle Smith hits on draft picks and brings in talented free agents.

I still believe and it appears at THIS point that the offseason approach was wrong and is not working. I still do not understand what Smith and RR were thinking.

I couldn't have said it any better. Your opinion matters as much as anyone who posts here and I can only hope that one of these days our team will have much more unity than its fans on this board.

I still believe and it appears at THIS point that the offseason approach was wrong and is not working. I still do not understand what Smith and RR were thinking.
Time will tell I guess. Most importantly, do they adjust, if it isn’t working.
