Probably should just trade him to a cap rich team, tbh. No shame in getting Bucker’s value + if it’s out there in a cap nuked environment.
I don't think the NFL or college football will have a season this year. It'll be an odd draft next year. Drafting players who haven't played for so long. Will the 2019 class still be considered rookies?
yeah, really, with the Mahomes contract and not knowing about the cap situation after this year, the Chiefs are really in no position to sign Jones long term unless it's at a big discount and, word around here, is that he wants an Aaron Donald size contract and they just won't and shouldn't do that.
That's what I think will happen. More with the NBA. The NFL will see how it spread and get pressured to call it off.Well you gotta think...if they get guys to camp...they're going to give it the ole college try!
I'm leaning towards them having a season unless the NBA and or MLB explode with CV-19 cases.
Well he brings more to the table than just sacks. He crushes the middle of a pocket (that is worth more than the sack to me) he blocks passes. Others get sacks off of his work. He should be the 2nd highest paid DT IMO. With that said. I dont think any of them are worth 20 mil+ but in the NFL reality that is where they are.Another case of a player reaching further than his skills.
In this new scheme I think he's a 34 DE....he would need Donald like skills to keep producing dbl digit sacks from that position...coming off 9 sacks last yr and he wants $20 mil per after seeing the market ignore that same pay rate from Clowney?
Yeah, don't blame the young mane for wanting to get paid long term, but he doesn't have a brightest agent.
In short. He can learn from Bell, and the Chiefs should learn from the Steelers.
Trade him if the contract can't be negotiated. Le'Veon Bell contract saga with the Steelers revolved around bad-faith negotiations. Steelers made offers but Bell kept upping the ante every time. He claimed it was the overall value, then he claimed it was the length, then he claimed it was the guarantees. He could never keep his word straight about any of it. Steelers were desperate enough (wanting to retain him) to keep trying instead of trading him. They could have gotten so much more than a 2020 compensatory 3rd rd pick had they chosen to move him while they could.
Players wanting to sit out a year to prove a point are only hurting themselves in the long run. Losing $16m tag is just the start. Bell lost quite a bit more in overall contract value, but gained more guaranteed money over a 2 yr window. Still going to be a considerable deficit when you measure up what he could have made with the Steelers.
I think Bell lost a lot more long term. By first missing a whole year (money that can never be recouped), then by taking that little bit more guaranteed only to play for a woeful Jets team with Oline issues and watch his production fall off a cliff. Basically ensuring no one will want his sorry ass down the road. Bell is an idiot. He can learn from Bell, and the Chiefs should learn from the Steelers.

Yep, he’ll never admit wrong or say he regrets it though... But he knows he misplayed his hand & lost a lot more than he gained.I think Bell lost a lot more long term. Yeah, the funniest thing about the Bell situation was that most of us amateur fans called it and could see it coming while a few idiots and the media were gushing over it. Some see the outcome and still don't understand it.Yep, he’ll never admit wrong or say he regrets it though... But he knows he misplayed his hand & lost a lot more than he gained.
If anything Chris Jones can learn from Bell about his mistakes during the ordeal... if Bell is honest with him. If he follows the exact same path... then no he’s not bein honest & Jones is every bit the idiot that Bell is

I kinda feel like this his him posturing for a long term deal. Since the threat is real, even though I dont think he will do it.
Brings up my other questions on guaranteed Contracts.
If he signs his tag & the season gets cancelled. Does he still get paid?
I know way back in yesteryear, during a strike year. Dan Fouts was asked in an interview if he would cross the picket line & play as a scab. he said why would I? My contract is guaranteed. I get paid either way.
If the season is cancelled. Are all these guaranteed contracts still paid? If so I would be signing the tag.
Yep. Or they were intentionally stirring the pot for clicks.
