Big 12 Boss Bowlsby Eyeing Mid-July Reboot - West Virginia University Athletics

The conference recently announced the resumption of voluntary workouts starting on June 15, and last Friday, West Virginia announced its phased-return plan for football players.

A two-week protocol for screening, distancing, cleaning and sanitation are part of Phase 1 for returning Mountaineer coaches and players.

The two-week slots are June 8-22 for coaches and support staff and June 15-29 for players.

Both groups will be tested for COVID-19 at least 72 hours prior to their return date, and results must be negative before they can enter WVU's football facilities, according to an athletics department release sent out last Friday.

Personnel will be limited in football facilities at all times and face coverings will be worn in all common areas.

By mid-July, usual preseason football activities should be in place at all 10 conference campus sites.

WVU football releases teaser as student-athletes begin phased return Monday

West Virginia’s football team will soon make its full return as the student-athlete phase begins Monday and will last until June 29 as part of the team’s plan for phased return.

Everyone returning to on-campus facilities will be tested 72 hours before they come back, and must test negative to be allowed into team facilities. Face coverings will be worn and daily screening and temperature checks will be given due to CDC guidelines. In addition, weight room equipment will move outside, where they will be properly spaced and sanitized.

This marks the first time WVU football will be able to prepare in-person for the 2020 fall season after their spring season was cut short in March.

“It’s Happening,” the team teased on their Twitter account alongside a montage of student-athletes preparing before the spring’s cancellation.

Not sure I understand. We’ve already seen multiple programs report positive cases, and it ain’t slowed the train. Except at UH where 6 cases suspended voluntary workouts for now.

Most of these kids who test positive will have symptoms similar to the sailors aboard the Roosevelt. And, that ain’t gonna stop football.

Keep reading my brother....Arizona, Texas and now Florida have had RECORD spikes in Covid 19 ...I am telling you this season AIN"T getting off the ground..it only takes one game of one kid testing positive and starting an outbreak not only between the players on the field but they take it back with them to the schools ..lawsuits start....Armageddon begins .its not good! .I am glass half empty at the moment...

I agree 100% BBW, we must live our lives, this virus, like any other virus is hard on select groups of people, not so hard on other groups. We can not hide in our houses, not going out, we will die of insanity or heart disease. This virus will still be here a year from now, 10 years from now, 100 years from now, we have to get back to normal!!! As to the spikes in cases, of course there will be as people get out doing normal things!!!! There will be ball this fall, my be that stadiums are only partly full, may be that only the two deep dress and are on the sidelines, may be that there is only a league schedule, but there will be ball in some form, the bills have to be paid, people need something to do.

It’s a $4 billion enterprise for the P5 alone. You’re kidding yourself if you think football won’t happen.

I think they will play...and I think its going to be an epic fail...

An epic fail?

Usually I’m the one who throws out a bunch of hyperbole BS.

Please tell me how it will be an epic fail?

I agree.... southern states are fucking things up big time!

The ugly person that’s inside me is watching the mess going on in states like AZ, FL an TX, and my sadistic side is thinking... y’all getting what you deserve.

Fuckers down there decided they knew more than scientists... didn’t have to open slowly... didn’t have to wear masks. Bars and restaurants packed to the max.

If those states escape without becoming the next NY, NJ... then I’ll be totally shocked.

Heard Lyin' Shane on the Big12 Network this morning trying to put lipstick on a pig...he opens the conversation by saying that Wv has taken all kinds of precautions to start playing football on September 5th...walks through the entire process including discussions with other conferences... and then gets asked the question when was the last conversation he says weeks ago....and then of course the second question with everything going on in Florida and Texas has their been another meeting or has plans changed...he says no meetings and now things are FLUID!..

It is beyond me with Texas literally in Nuclear Meltdown, Houston seeming to be taking the brunt and Jacksonville area and Miami in the same boat that residents there are still pushing back on trying to mitigate the virus somehow it all violates constitutional rights??....just looked at the calendar...could swear it says we are living in the year 2020 and not 1776..

They won't, their Governors are to smart to send the Covoid Patients to the nursing homes, they have also had a lot of outsiders coming in to vacation.

You saying the governors of SC and GA are smart? They both sound like some of the dumbest fucks I’ve ever heard.
