I was listening to two guys on the radio while in DC (No idea which station) and they said that in the second game, the Caps committed an icing and Hunter yelled out "Change 'em up!", and allegedly got pissed when no one responded.

Chimera had to tell him you can't change on icings in this league.

Gonna be a long year for the Caps.

Relocate the Caps!!!

This sounds a weird, twilight-zoney twist to one of those swampy posts by a northern hockey purist...

"LOL... I was in Washington and this yokel 'fan' yelled 'change em up' on an icing". Lol. Stupid 'fans'. Dont even know the rules. Dont deserve a team!! Wait, what? Who said it?"

I wish I could remember what it was on. It might have even been on Sirius XM, the show with Bob McCown (I listened to that a lot).

The guys seemed to know what they were talking about, and they also stated that within an hour of Boudreau being canned, the Ducks GM was on the phone asking if it was okay if they talked to him. He was actually hired the next day, but had to arrange for one of his assistants to fly out and talk to Ducks management. And the Caps couldn't be happier about it because when the Ducks hired him, the Caps were off the hook for 3m/year in salary.

They also railed on Leonsis for hiring Hunter because he was Mr Capital, and probably not a really good choice for the problem - Lazy Russians. That's where the first story came out. They spent 15 minutes discussing when they expected Hunter would quit and go back to his job in the O. They agreed no later than June 1.

They also wondered if you can trade a coach. I honestly don't know, nor did they.

Anyone?

I went to a lot of games in that building and the previous one. There was a time when this was completely accurate. Pretty much NO ONE cared.

I remember the hub-bub when an open mic caught Mike Ridley in the hall trying to fire up his team before a home game against the Pens at the Cap Center. "C'MON BOYS! LET'S BEAT 'EM IN THEIR RINK! SHUT THAT CROWD UP!!". He caught hell for that. But only because he insulted the locals. Not because what he said was true.

I loved Mike Ridley.

How about Calle Johanssen?

Of that Era Caps, Rick Tabaracci and Kevin Hatcher were the only ones I didn't like.

I hated Tabaracci, actually...

Replacing him will be the 51-year-old Hunter who has spent the past decade coaching the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League and leading them to the Memorial Cup championship during the 2004-05 season. He owns the highest career winning percentage of any coach in the OHL's history.

Hunter, of course, also played for the Capitals between 1987 and 1999 during a career that saw him score 323 goals and compile over 3,500 penalty minutes in 1,407 regular season games. Along with the Capitals, he also spent time with the Quebec Nordiques and Colorado Avalanche.

"This has been my team ... I shouldn't say my team, it's Ted's [Leonsis] team but it feels like my team because I played here for so long and I have good memories here," Hunter said at his meet the media session after Monday's team practice here at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. "I taped every game for the last how many years?"

I find it hard to believe he didn't know the rule.

I'm sure he knew the rule, but the guys been coaching in the OHL for years now...just a matter of habit I'm sure.

Let's see... we have 2 sports radio stations with probably about 20 hosts that are popular and well known. So narrowing down the hosts that know a ton about hockey and wouldn't say things like that... well, we still have 20 suspects.

Sorry, not sure.

As I said, it may not have been locals as I did listen to Sirius XM on the NHL channel a lot too. And there was a lot of Caps talk this week.

I heard Doug MacLean a lot. He is a buffoon.
