New vacancy......I couldn't find the hotseat or the other coaches thread, sorry for the new post.

Rumor has it they want Kirby Smart or Kevin Sumlin. Not sure either of those are a good idea for them, they need to be very careful here. IMO they need a proven winner with name cache to keep their recruiting class intact.

I'm curious how they afford this.

They owe the university 16 million, the 20 million exit fee, and Sherm's buyout is another 8 or 9 million - they don't have the money, and they don't have a big money booster that can just cut a check. THEN they'd have to pay a new coach more than they were paying Sherm......so I"m not sure how they are going to pull this off, this should be interesting.

Oh, and another rumor I've heard is Slocum or Jackie Sherrill will be the next AD, LOL

I don't want Kirby going anywhere, but I think he'd be a great hire for A&M. As good as our defense has been under him, he might be the best bet to get their defense up to par with the rest of the SEC.

It was all over twitter and A&M sites as well as Texas sites late last night and this morning.

One way or another, they need to make an official announcement today. Either they are behind him or they are canning him.....but they need to make a move.

Not sold on Smart being good for them. I think they need a proven coach that's been a HC before.

Yeah, I didn't think the Farmers would fire Sherman. Like Star said, they are broke and owe millions. He'll be around for 2 more years as Aggy starts collecting those checks for being another SEC doormat over the next couple of years. Once they cash those checks, then maybe they'll be able to pay off some of that debt and go after a new HC after winning only 5 conference games the 1st 2 years.

Please. I started this thread, another one laughing at A&M, a thread on LSU, one on Craig James, etc....

Maybe you should pay more attention. Do we laugh at and troll our rivals? Absolutely. Is it all we do? Not even vaguely.

I thought he did a good job overall. Texas has surpassed the Aggies in recruiting and visability and this has hurt A&M. They lost a lot of close games this year and probably would have beaten Texas with a decent running game, but both of their excellent runners were hurt.
They may feel a new coach is the way to go before changing conferences.
