I have a question for everyone and I hope that it doesn't cross any political lines as presented nor any in posters responses.

Question: Who should pay for training camp sites, team ownership or state, city, and towns (taxpayers) in which these camps are located?
I would say the teams, but... I'd be ok if they don't as long as they sign a reasonable lease guaranteeing they pay for at least 20 years rent.

Great question! I can't speak for how financial arrangement should be handled among all NFL teams but I can speak somewhat for the Carolina Panthers since they are located in NC. During the years that Jerry Richardson owned the Panthers training camp was always held at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. I feel sure this was because that's where Jerry went to college and I feel pretty certain there was some kind of financial trade off because of this or perhaps Jerry was just giving back to his college. Under new Panthers ownership Wofford College training camp was eliminated.

That rent would go up over time correct?

Do you know who's profiting from the current arrangement?

I used the word "reasonable" - so probably - unless they work something else out that is... reasonable. What matters is the present value of the present and future streams of payments.

Yeah, I get that, but referring back to the article, I noted that the reasonable contract signed that worked in the first year or so, now is problematic for the city of Richmond.

Perhaps it's, as stated, a matter that's come forth because the team sucked, perhaps not.

Heck no, I'm a Redskins fan.

Honestly, I don't even know what the Panthers current arrangement is other than RR is not their head coach.

Gotcha, sorry I missed the article until you pointed it out. Yeah, when the team sucks so bad for so long, it loses its appeal. I'm sure both sides didn't expect that. I think there's a similar situation with the Orioles and the city of Aberdeen - where they have a minor league team. Aberdeen is stuck with a bad deal - Cal Ripken has lost some local popularity because of it.
