Kids, this is why you don't vote for a reality TV jackass as president of the U.S. Regardless of party or gender...

I know I won't ever be bragging about living through this year 2020.

Our cases have sky rocketed as our culture is different from a lot of other countries. I'm not the biggest Trump fan, and I've found his responses to this pandemic, to be less than satisfactory. Having said that, is he responsible for people going out and licking toilets, or people purposefully coughing on produce? Is he responsible for people being negligent and irresponsible and inconsiderate of other people's health that chose to go out and still play 5-on-5 basketball games? Or throw COVID-19 parties?

Hence the "as long as they are friends or family members" part of my post.

Friends and family are a lot different.

If you live in the same house with someone and limit exposure to everyone else, then that is 1 thing. If they don’t live in the same house they are exposing themself to another person which adds risk. The more often a person does this, the more likely they are to catch and spread the virus.

So no, it is not necessarily OK “as long as they are friends”.

Honestly,

Yes. He is partially responsible.

Because back in February he was driving the bus telling people it wasn’t a big deal. Now he is talking about opening things back up by Easter.

Had he treated this with the level of concern that he should have from the jump, perhaps mainstream America would be practicing a lot more caution and restraint today. So while he isn’t directly responsible for Covid 19 parties, I do believe his leadership, or lack thereof has shaped a lot of opinions and behaviors of American people.

If they are friends, they probably know what precautions they have taken.

A friend of mine who is in a high risk category comes over on the weekends. He doesn't go anywhere else and when I go out, I keep my distance from other people.

So yes, it may be perfectly fine. If you don't have all of the details, you have no idea what the situation is.

I agree with the first half of your statement. I think Trump should've put a strict ban on travel - completely. That's where I lose my mind. Airplanes and airports are probably the most germ infested places and the likely areas where you're going to get sick.

In terms of leadership, at the end of the day, people will have their own opinions. And a lot of people have had their opinions of Trump cemented before he was even elected president, so I think regardless of how Trump approached this situation, people were going to go about this the way they wanted to.

To add onto culture of the US - I heard from a colleague that I work with who lives in NY. She told me yesterday that they had to take down the basketball hoops to prevent people from playing basketball. New York is the hot bed for COVID-19 in the US and is not some secret. COVID-19 is not political, this would happen even if we had a Democrat/Independent party in as President right now.

I agree, but it's also hindsight based on what we know now, not on what was happening at the time.

It needs to be remembered that when he put the travel restrictions in place, the W.H.O. called it an overreaction and some Democrats said it was racist.

The W.H.O. has since said it was the right thing to do and probably bought them an extra 2-3 weeks.

It's kind of funny to see people talk about how "unprecedented" this is and how "it's a fluid situation" and how "little we know".

Yet, according to some, he was somehow supposed to handle all of this perfectly and find a cure himself.

Most likely case though, 2 guys playing 1 on 1 in a public park aren’t being as careful as they could be. Whether or not they know where the other person has been.

When people take the "Ball is life" motto too seriously

he knew about the disease in late December.

Up until early March he was downplaying it. The US did nothing in January or February or early March to prepare. He dissolved the government agency that is supposed to handle pandemics and gutted funding for pandemics.

Exactly. There's not exactly a manual written on how to handle a global pandemic. It's also funny watching Biden (who can barely put together a competent sentence together) say how he would've done things different - he's basically Captain Hindsight from South Park.

I never claimed I did. I'm also not going to be judging a situation like that without all of the info.

I honestly think Biden is not mentally well. He sounds like a grandpa who is starting to lose it.

If people want to get so outraged by Trump, get mad at the government that a guy like Trump can basically walk in and get the presidency like he did. The Democrats, in their hubris thought Hillary could walk all over Trump in an election. They're going to repeat the same mistake by putting Biden in, who looks like he has dementia.

it was like March 10th when he was still saying crazy shit like- well you can go to work if you have a little cough...i forget the exact words but it was totally crazy shit.

Wasnt he saying like there is 15 cases- thats not bad- soon theere will be 0, as late as early March. He was in total denial about the whole thing and more concerned about the politics that ran with it.

Only about 2 weeks ago did he actually start doing anything. He actually said to the American people- Everyone that wants a test can geta test- the tests are perfect- like the phone call was perfect--- and at that point practically no one could get a test and weeks later there are still huge shortages of tests.

while i get this is a very difficult situation he has bungled this and lied repeateadly. I dont think he does it out of meanness --i just think he was in denial about the seriousness for a long time.

And?

In late December it was also still being denied and/or downplayed by by the Chinese government and the world health organization.

When he put the travel bans in place, they were called an overreaction and racist. Now, people want to complain that he didn't act soon enough, even though he was the first to take any serious action.

Has he handled this perfectly? No, never said he did.

But people who want to put all of this on him are just trying to politicize it.

Oh, he definitely downplayed the importance of this and how contagious this virus is. Part of it is denial, yes. I think the one thing, and trojan pointed out that he's tried to ban travel to China (if I read that right), is the emphasis on travel bans. In St. Johns county where I live in, we were good up until we caught our first case last week, and it was because someone traveled from NY. From there on it spread and we now have 25 cases (last I checked yesterday morning).

Trump has never been a guy that's been an eloquent speaker; and sometimes he sounds like an uttering buffoon.

The fact that people are not criticizing the Chinese government as much is what has me baffled (well, 2nd to the fact that people are buying up paper towels and TP at mass quantities).
