Watching the Sr. crash I told my wife he was dead right after it happened and she said I was crazy. It hit the wall and decelerated so fast and from the moderate damage you could tell the car didn't take as much of the impact as you would hope it would.

i said the same thing about the sr. wreck...hes dead. Felt the same way with newman...felt eary

But he was inches from being collected up in the 20 car pileup that happened about 20 laps prior, and it’s likely he’d still be here today if he would have been more unlucky earlier in the race

That was the first time I’ve ever seen an impact like that. That’s a fatality with the old cars, Indy or F1 with and impact like that with another car.

I still say the racing was better with the old cars, but I’ll never criticize this generation of cars again. Might criticize some rule packages NASCAR puts on them as far as aero or downforce goes, but not the cars themselves

Seriously, what did the doctors have to do once he came to? They ran some tests to make sure that he didn't have brain damage/major concussion, broken bones or sometimes hard to detect internal injuries and they held him for a couple days to be sure.
